Grooming Feb 1, 2020

Today’s report is brought to you by the Shipkey Family:     The Shipkeys are trail builder on the Noque’.  Without the support of folks like the Shipkeys we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect.  If you see them, say thanks.

Trail Builder sections are available.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

Not to anthropomorphize but my skis and (snow) bike are having a little polite disagreement in the basement.  I suspect a biathlon will be the only way to return civility to the sports paraphernalia wing.  I’m sure there will be a dispute about first or second but that will have to be a game time decision.  Riding the South Trails yesterday was a real eye opener.  I was reminded of John Hersey’s classic  A Single Pebble.    The story follows a young hydrologic engineer surveying the Yangtse in the 1920s.  After several years working with a group of barge traffic laborers he took them to a celebratory dinner once his work was completed.  The dinner was extremely awkward and the reader was left wondering why his friends didn’t enjoy dinner in a nice restaurant.  The engineer failed to realize his deep understanding of river barge labor life was but a single pebble in the bottom of a river.  My eyes are now open to a different type of grooming and terrain; not better but different.  More tomorrow; I have to figure out how to get my bike and skis in the car (and the agenda).

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and set track Tuesday, the 27th. Some sections of classic track are thin.  Skiing will be excellent today.

Big Bay Pathway:  The Big Bay Pathway was groomed on January 31.  Hidden Grin is in excellent condition.

Fit Strip:  Wednesday night the Fit Strip Lit Loop was groomed and the Outer Loop was rolled.

Snow Bike South Trails:

AS OF THURSDAY JANUARY 30:

Groomed everything except oak hill. I’d still run less than 5psi, but it’s getting pretty good out there.

Some bridges are getting a bit off camber with deep snow. Improvements continue, but be aware until we get to them.
