ABOUT THE NTN SOUTH TRAILS

The NTN South Trails include over 45 miles of non-motorized singletrack that wrap around the south portions of the City of Marquette featuring waterfalls, big views, purpose built flow trails and techy lines. From old school chunder to flowy goodness, and topped off with some big free ride trails, the South Trails are the foundation of mountain biking in Marquette and really do have something for everyone. South Trails are open to: mountain biking (including Class 1 pedal assist e-bikes), hiking, running and in the winter, fat biking and snowshoeing. More information on e-bike access here: NTN Statement on E-bike Use

Marquette County has received national acclaim as a premier mountain bike destination in several publications including Bike Magazine, Silent Sports Magazine and others. In 2014, the NTN Singletrack trails were awarded status as an International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Ride Center, only one of two in Michigan. Parts of the South Trails have been there for over 25 years, while new trails are being added yearly. The newest, Yellow Trail (South of Marquette Mountain) is under a phased development.

ALL TRAIL USE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Access: The South Trails are easily accessible from town, off of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail or you can start at the main South Trailhead along County Road 553.

Dirt Season: All non-motorized human-powered activities are welcome, unless signed otherwise. Be kind to other trail users you may encounter.  Keep it simple by following one of the progressive levels of colored loops marked on the ground from the South Trailhead:  Purple (Grom Loop), Green (Morgan Creek Loop), Red (Pioneer Loop), Blue (Mount Marquette Loop), Yellow (Carp River Loop), or piece together an adventure of your own. Free riders should head up Benson and seek out the big downhill biking-only lines as they are out there (and can also be found at Marquette Mountain).

Snow Season: Around 20 miles of the singletrack are snowmobile groomed specifically for winter fat biking but open to compatible uses. Please be considerate of those behind you. If you are sinking more than 1/2 inch lower your tire pressure, use snowshoes if on foot, or turn back and wait for the conditions to firm up. Dogs are welcome on a leash as per Michigan law. Support Trails: Please support trail efforts by purchasing a membership, donating, volunteering, or becoming a sponsor.
