2019 January 19, Grooming Report;
Thank you Trail Builders:
Today’s report is brought to you by George, Deanna, Bernie and Winnie Stien. Without folks like the Bernie and Winnie and I should also mention George and Deanna we would not be able to enjoy the great skiing we have come to expect. So, if you see them, say thanks.
If you have not done so, please renew your membership.
ALSO, there are K markers available. Buy a K marker and See below on how to weigh in on the K marker numbering debate raging in the Grooming Report Writer’s Guild Hall.
Forestville Real Grooming Report: Bombi groomed and tracked from Forestville all the way to Co Rd 510 including the Mead By Pass. All other trails inside 14k will be skate groomed

As always, your feedback is appreciated via reply to this email or to FB. Send in pictures and you too can get your K marker moved to the front of the line. See the Nordic skiing FB page https://www.facebook.com/NTNNordic/
Saux Head: All trails groomed Friday
Last grooming: Groomed & Tracked 1/18/19
Fit Strip: All trails groomed and tracked Monday of this week
Last grooming: Groomed & Tracked 1/10/19
Big Bay Pathway: Dennis groomed Meditation and Hidden Grin Thursday morning. Meditation is in great shape. Hidden Grin is fairly good in most areas. The leg that is about one kilometer for the end did not take a track but is ready for the next snow fall. If we can get 8 or more inches we can have everything groomed and in great shape including Bear Mountain.
Snow Bike Trails:
South Trails: Incredible amount of fat bike trails available right now on the south side.
The Langford Loop is now open! The extreme DH panked trails are really coming around. They are not for the faint of heart. (ed. Note: Panked and Panking are Yooper terms. We can publish a full decoder ring of all terms used in the grooming report again if there is public demand).
7-10 psi on the SBR.
5-7 psi on single track.
3-5 psi on the panked trails.
North Trails: All traditionally groomed since last snow and cold temps have all trails very nice. Recommend 7 lb psi. The intersection of Blue Heron and Penstock is often slippery so a detour is groomed for bikers without studs.
Of course you can also post your own information on the FB page and you are encouraged to do so. Here is the link:

Way Too Long to Read Report: Today is the traditional day for the last long ski before that stupid race (sorry, I didn’t mean to say that out loud) the Noquemanon Ski Marathon. Those of you that are in shape are no doubt looking forward to it while the rest of us recognize we would have to leave town if we skipped it (and I don’t mean for the weekend… we would have to relocate). God willing I will see what 50k feels like today. It will be fun (when it is over… kind of like camping in the rain).
Too Long To Read Report: As referenced above, a debate rages in the Guild Hall. As a member of the K marker Trail Builders you too can weigh in. For the (relatively) small Trail Builders fee you too can contribute two cents to the conversation.
You see, in the early days of the Noquemanon Ski Marathon the 51 k race had exactly 24k left at Co Rd 510. For the better part of a decade a nice young lady and an old grooming report writer were feted at the 16k mark; right at the intersection of the Wagis and the Noque’. Then, someone got the bright idea to actually measure the marks. I know during the race some of the Ks seemed to go on forever and others seemed to fly by. Of course by that point in the race I always chalked it up to delirium but the GPS didn’t lie; the K were off; and not just by a little. So, we had no choice, said the chin pullers; we had to re-number the trail builder signs. Then for a number of years that same couple hosted the marker formerly known as 16k; you know, kind of like when the great grooming report singer Price changed his name to an un-pronounceable symbol. Then we would say, it was “old 16k new 14k”. Now, as time has faded memory it is just 14k.
Well, this year the race will be ending at the Log Yard; also called the 4k mark. Can we go through another decade of confusion?; can we?; should we? Members of the fraternity/sorority can weigh in on the debate. Now is your chance.
Buy your K marker today and we will do everything we can to get it up before race day. We still have prime markers available. You can show off to your buddies at 23k near the Co Rd 510 crossing or 21k near the top of the spectacular hill overlooking Superior or at 7k where at least some of us will be carrying Fat Elvis next week.
But seriously(?), you should have a K marker. We also have markers going in the west direction as well as some key intersection sites. You are conspicuous by your absence.
See you out there.
