Lori Hauswirth

Executive Director

Lori joined the NTN staff as Executive Director in January, 2018. With a background in regional planning and non-profit work, Lori was excited for the opportunity to return to her hometown of Marquette after 23 years in the Keweenaw. Prior to coming to NTN, Lori served 6 years as Executive Director of the Copper Harbor Trails Club in a split role with the International Mountain Bicycling Association as an Associate Region Director.

Trail Activities: Mountain biking, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, fat biking, and skijoring.

Role for NTN: Manage day to day activities, serve as a liaison between organization and stakeholders, provide strategic guidance, execute programs and initiatives, public relations and fundraising, and help with anything that might arise.

Side Gig: Mountain bike instructor and owner of Because Trails, LLC.

Favorite NTN Trail: Depends on the day...

Reason for being part of NTN: "Trails have been a part of my life as long as I can remember and I have seen first hand the power of trails to transform people and communities. As part of NTN, I have a chance to build upon NTN's great work and further protect and grow access for all."

Jeni Kilpela

Community Outreach Coordinator

Jeni started with the NTN in 2023 and is learning the ins and outs of non-profit trails organizations. She has past experience at Peter White Public Library in Communications and Youth Services. She also volunteers with church camps and local youth cross-country skiing.

Trail Activities: Cross-country skiing, mountain biking, trail running and hiking.

Role for NTN: Jeni works with NTN communications, manages the membership system, handles event applications and helps wherever else she's needed.

Side Gig: Director, Lake Superior Shore Run

Favorite NTN Trail: New section of Animoosh, Silver Lead (Peter's Sandbox)

Reason for being part of NTN: "My family and I spend a lot of time enjoying community trails, including NTN trails. I'm in awe of the beauty of where we live. I'm excited to do my part through NTN communications, socials, partnerships, and relationships to continue to foster the sense of community that NTN trails has created. I am excited for the system's future."

Doug Pennala

Facilities Manager/Trail Builder

Doug joined the NTN as a trail builder in the Spring of 2019. With a background of digging and sculpting dirt, Doug jumped right into repairing and rebuilding the trails. Although new to NTN, he is definitely not new to the trails as there may just be one out there named after him. In fall of 2019 Doug was hired full time to manage NTN facilities and equipment but will continue to build trails in the summer months.

Trail Activities: Mountain biking, BMX.

Role for NTN: Digging the dirt, keeping equipment running, grooming, and more...

Side Gig: Rockstar (Guitar Player for the band SPUN)

Favorite NTN Trail: Doug's Back Nine of course.

Reason for being part of NTN: "Because Mike makes weird jumps."

Andy McCormick

Head Forestville Groomer

Kellie Barry-Angeli

Bookkeeper

Kellie has been with the NTN since 2015 and is the point person for everything at the NTN office. She is not only the happy voice on the NTN phone but is the welcome committee at the NTN office. She knows the ins and outs of almost everything NTN and if she doesn't have an answer, she will find it.

Trail Activities: Snowshoeing, dog walking, bird watching and photography.

Role for NTN: Kellie helps track all the funds in and out of the NTN and the events under the NTN umbrella. She also helps to maintain relations with and retain permissions from over 90 landowners that allow access to their land for trails.

Side Gig: Watching all the birds.

Favorite NTN Trail: Currently Forget Me Not and Fern Gully. Most memorable Southern Cross where she took her first strip over the handlebars.

Reason for being part of NTN: "On any given day, people of all ages, abilities, and status can be seen on our trails. Many use the trails to exercise, others to access nature to settle their minds and souls. The NTN, through its trial work, programs and events encourages that use and I get to be part of making that happen."
