2019 March 17, Grooming Report;
Today’s report is brought to you by the organizers(?) of the 510 Club. I hasten to add, this is more of an organic movement than anything one could call organized. In any case, Vickie looks to be having the rest of us skiing as “also rans”. Of course, the great thing about the movement is the positive pressure to keep grooming to 510. Judging by the forecast our seaso has a good way to go. Don’t let those 40f temp forecasts scare you off; each night will freeze through the 6 day forecast so trails will remain in excellent shape.
Of course, the movement is all good but not without its share of controversy. The last two time I made the run my tracks were the only ones on Bagwagi and Chiwagi hills in the late afternoon. Yesterday both Bagwagi and Chiwagi hills were spectacular. The 1” of new snow married to the firm base and the result was spectacular. My tracks were all alone at 3:00 PM! This means the majority of 510 skiers skip the best skiing. I really don’t understand this behavior and am here to tell you it has to stop. All shirkers must place an asterisk next to runs that bypass the hills. I should add, not that Zuckerberg knows exactly where you are any minute of every day, you will be found out. I am reminded of the sad story of Donald Crowhurst. I’ll be looking for astericks (and then talking to Zuckerberg
In any case, if you have not done so, please renew your membership. There are K markers available. Your name and favorite picture can be here too.
New pictures from anyone will be appreciated. I really mean this. I agonize missing some Trail Builders.
Forestville Real Grooming Report: Andy cleaned the skate lanes on the Noque to 17k and Animoosh and Chiwagi by pass.

As always, your feedback is appreciated via reply to this email or to FB. Send in pictures and you too can get your K marker moved to the front of the line. See the Nordic skiing FB page https://www.facebook.com/NTNNordic/
Saux Head: Groomed and set track Saturday morning. The classic track is thin in some areas but skiing will be very good. There is fine tree debris on the trail in areas where there is dense hemlock and red pine.
Fit Strip: Trails will be icy following the thaw.
Big Bay Pathway: Boe checked out the trails today and retrieved the wood drag from Keweenaw Corner and the the teeth for the blue drag from Bear Mountain . The trail could not be groomed yesterday. Maybe after the overnight snow it will be possible. There are a few areas on Bear Mountain that are starting to deteriorate. Boe is not sure if the trail will survive the warm weather next week.
South Snow Bike Trails: Trails were groomed yesterday and should be in good shape today.
North Trails:
As you can see, person decided he/she had to venture into the groomed trails without snowshoes in 48 degree temp sinking foot deep right before the freeze. The portion of Collinsville from the trail head to the power line is badly damaged and frozen. Upper Blue Heron has a 70 yard section detoured to the street. Lower Silver Lead is in good condition aside from the first 50 yards of damage.
If you see anyone leaving this kind of tracks, please read them this report.
Of course you can also post your own information on the FB page and you are encouraged to do so. Here is the link:
