Grooming January 5, 2020
Sorry for the delay; my dog ate my jump drive. I will endeavor to prevent a repeat. We strive to get the report out by 9:00 AM.
Today’s report is brought to you by the Sibilsky family: The Sibilskys sponsor the Co Rd 510 trail head sign on the Noque’. Without the support of folks like the Sibilskys we would not have the great trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Groomers will let the trail say ungroomed this morning. The light snow today will make skiing excellent. Yesterday’s Bombi grooming on all trails will make for ideal skiing all day today.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
Comments on yesterday’s conditions: I do so hope you did ski yesterday. Ideal weather combined with hero snow made for a spectacular day on the boards. I must say I did make a mistake by only skiing the Mead hills once. The smart guys and gals stopped at the lower Mead gate after seeing Co Rd 510 and turned around to ski back to Co Rd 510. Not only is that stretch the best terrain but also the best snow. I did fear I would lack the gas to enjoy(?) myself after the second pass through the bumps but actually had too much left in the tank at the end. I know you are saying, just go back around the Wagis but that is the beauty of an out-and-back ski; there is no choice involved. I would add, for those of you that didn’t even ski the Wagis once, you made a big mistake. Bagwagi to the second cut off was not only beautiful, it had the best snow inside 14k due to its less frequent grooming. I made first tracks on the Talladega hill. I should add, it is too fast and narrow to ski without stemming your speed so the “no snow plow” rule on the Talladega down hill (not a “real” rule but rather a Sondoism) has been suspended until further notice. Injuries to humans over the age of 60 create conditions; for those under 50 they are simply injuries that one overcomes. I don’t even remember what leg I broke as a teen and have to look for the scar to remember what clavicle was broken. Now I just go down Talladega because the climb out is so great.
Other B.S. What a world in which we live. I just watched the final stage of the Tour de Ski live on the web site and saw Jessie Diggins finish the tour in 3rd. The final race was a 10k freestyle at Val de Fiemme in norther Italy on a blue bird day. I would comment, it was all on man made snow. It makes our skiing look great. The final climb was especially cool. The race ended on a 2k section called “final climb” in the FIS Homologation rules. You can go to the FIS site and check it out. They climb 1,500 feet up the adjacent alpine resort. What a race. It makes me want to get out there today.
Saux Head: Tim groomed and reset the track, Saturday, 1/4/2020. For the most part the track set up well. Should be enjoyable skiing!
Big Bay Pathway: The Hidden Grin Loop was groomed on Saturday morning, January 4th. We took some to time today to complete some additional brushing from remnants of the last storm. The trail is in good condition, offering a pleasant 45 minute ski.
Fit Strip: Neil groomed all trails New Year’s Day. I have not heard about the effect of the mini thaw. Foot traffic is a problem at the Fit Strip so you may see foot prints in the now hard snow
Snow Bike South Trails: Main loop and enchantment are open, “probably” firm. Please be attentive to what your tire pressure leaves behind you.
East side (mt mqt/blue loop) is open, with some drifted areas on north side and some water hazards on jeep trail descent.
Trail opening and grooming is ongoing during the weekend, thanks for your patience!
Snow Bike North Trails: North Trails remain in very good riding condition. Wildcat is snowshoe packed and hard enough to ride on (please stay in the singletrack avoiding ski trails).
THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4. Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
