Forestville: Andy skate lane groomed the Noque and Animoosh to 17k along with Chiwagi (hill by pass and hills), Bagwagi, Papasay, Migizi, Gookookoo, Bozhoo, and Zing. Classic tracks are worn but useable and get better as you get further from the trail head. Watch for thin spots with dirt in the usual problem areas such as under the power lines, under hemlock groves and in the low area near the bridges between 18k and 19k. Otherwise skate skiing has been very good and will be so today as well. Today’s forecast of 37f may cause some glazing of the surface tomorrow but new snow is on the way later in the week.
Fit Strip: The Fit Strip was roll packed the week of new years but I expect this warm spell at the lower elevations has rendered the trails all but unskiable. Think snow.
Big Bay Pathway: Reggie skied Hidden Grin Sunday and reported a great deal of foot traffic has destroyed the classic tracks. Think snow.
Saux Head: All trails were skate lane groomed on the 1st. MRT4 skied Saux Head earlier this week and indicated it was in rough shape but skiable.
Snow Bike Trails:
NORTH TRAILS
Last groom on Sunday 1/3/21
Trail base fast and firm. Excellent riding conditions.
Coverage is good with frequent rocks and roots showing through.
A couple of caution areas where trails are icy:
– On the Penstock Trail just before it connects to Blue Heron Trail
– On the BLP Trail where there is run off from the penstock
South Trails Grooming:
South Trails were groomed the week of New Years.
Mt. Marquette loop, Main loop, Enchantment loop, and Old Camp Ridge……OCR still needs some work but is ridable.
Also groomed Eh-line but its not going to be ridable for a bit yet.
*****warning****
Watch out for the ice on the bottom of Mt. Marquette loop (aka Jeep Trail). We sanded it the best we could, but its still going to be slick.”
WTLGR: I do see some hand wringing by folks stressed by our lack of snow this month. While the snow is getting a bit tired it is still very enjoyable. So, as the great grooming report writer Zeno would tell us, enjoy the skiing today because it is what we have today. See you out there.
