November 26, 2018; Grooming Report:
New snow of 1-2 inches on has brought us back to very good skiing. Andy brought out the wide 108 Ginzu to smooth out the skate lanes on the Noque’ to 17k, Animoosh. Muckway, Migizi and Chiwagi via the hill by pass. There was not enough new snow to reset the classic tracks. They are fair to good.
Way too long report:
I fear I under sold conditions yesterday. I had an enjoyable ski yesterday and saw smiling faces on the four or five skiers I encountered. It was thin at the power lines and I do think I picked up a nick on my new skies but more on that later. The surface was uneven from ski artifacts left during the warm spell but none were more than an inch deep and they were not rock hard. Much of the trail was wide enough to find a good skate lane. Then, at the pine plantation it was like a switch was flipped and we (me and the mouse) were back into winter skiing. I think it was a combination of a little more fresh snow and the fact many of the skiers on Saturday turned back before the 15k point. There was a .3k section where some jerk drove a vehicle on part of the trail west of 16k but it will have groomed out fairly well.
As for getting nicks on new skies I am reminded of my new truck (well… new in ’06). Anyway, I owned it for all of three weeks maybe. We were running some gps tracks laying out what is now Bigwagi. I was attempting to get to one of the western points after a 12 wet snow and the alders were weighted down and covering the road. It was a truck after all and I just plowed through. The scratches are still there; hundreds of them. I enjoyed the truck more after the event. I swear, my skies look better now with a few nicks.
See you out there.
