2019 April 26, Grooming Report;
I am reminded of the line from Little Caesar as delivered by Edward G Robinson; “… is this be the end of Rico?”. Skiing may be over. However, I must stress, “may”. Check out the pictures from this Tuesday near the “upper” Bismarck bridge. Skiing was excellent until well after noon. A freezing forecast for tonight and tomorrow will make for excellent skiing tomorrow and Sunday if the base held up through the thaw this week.
I will be otherwise occupied as this weekend is the traditional end to skiing and the trout stream opener. A survey of the camp road showed no snow there but it is at low elevation. The late spring melt has the road under water so we are looking at a 3 mile hike; what a great thing. How many places east of the Mississippi are so far from a drivable road (or cell coverage)? One best bring everything needed and nothing not. In heaven one has a vest for each type of fishing and the night before sort is unnecessary. Not likely to ever be there, I must get used to sorting out for spring time stream tackle. I recognize these are first world problems but problems none the less. Do I have enough orange yarn? Do I need sinking line? Should I bring a spinning reel? Is it ever ok to throw an anvil in the pond? Having answered all of the above I am all set. I should add, I am borrowing the grooming report writer critic’s rod case; you know, the nice kind that keeps everything safe with the reel mounted to the rod. Don’t tell her, I want it to be a surprise when I tell her (in 10 or 15 years).
I’ll bring pictures of fish if you bring pictures of skiing this weekend. Ok?
