January 18, 2019 Grooming Report

Today’s report is brought to you by the Lindsay Teeter Family:     The Lindsay Teeter Family are trail builder sponsors on the Noque’.  Without the support of folks like the Teeters we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect.  If you see them, say thanks.

Trail Builder sections are available.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

Forestville:   Groomers are holding off grooming during yet another major snow event.  Early morning skiers will find great skiing with only about 2” of overnight fluffy snow.  Groomers will get out as soon as it makes sense to groom but this event looks to last up to 24 hours.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I do hope you did get out yesterday.  It was a wonderful day on the trails.  I apologize if you were looking for the Tourist Park/NMU section in the morning but afternoon skiers found fresh grooming all the way.  Groomers are preparing the Noque for the NSM in two weeks so you will find groomers on the trails at any time of day.  In addition to grooming the entire trail, yesterday Doug was working to get the hills between the ponds in good shape.  They are both “off fall line” so they are both hard to groom and hard to ski.  They need to be wide and level and they are coming along.  The Wagis were excellent as was Animoosh as you can see in the picture above.  With the cold weather I actually waxed so my skis were running fairly well. I nailed the wax.  Of course that is a sword with two edges.  When skiing with others it is important to be able to claim your skies are actually not running well so you can justify the labored breathing to hang.  Hockey players will recall “throwing out the anchor” to get an icing call.  Cold weather skiing is especially great when you nail the clothing.  When you plan to be out there for several hours one hopes to avoid sweating or chilling.  Often times one has to dial up or down the layers or energy accordingly I had to do neither all day.  Modern clothing, boot covers and hand warmers are wonderful.  See you out there.

Saux Head:  Heavy snow today

Big Bay Pathway:  Heavy snow today

If you do ski please be aware, this is classic only and you may find rough areas. The terrain quite rugged and does need a good deal of snow just to cover. Please let us know what you find.  I have not been on the Big Bay trails yet (bad dog).

Fit Strip: Heavy snow today.

Snow Bike South Trails: Reported the night of January 16: All open trails are plowed, mostly firm. 4-6 psi but heavy snow today will be building on the trails.

Huge thanks to the crew of volunteers that cleared trees on oak hill loop, we were able to groom it in earlier this week. The spur connecting oak hill to top of freak n nature is in as well.

Snow Bike North Trails: As of the 14th all sections of North Trails were solid with good tractions. but heavy snow today will be building on the trails.

THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4.  Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
