January 20, 2019 Grooming Report
Today’s report is brought to you by Superior TIming: The folks at Superior Timing are trail builder sponsors on the Noque’. Without the support of folks Superior timing we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Andy hit all trails (except Papasay because it is too narrow) between the ponds and 17k with the Piston Bully (Bully) this morning.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
You know that dream you get (or used to get if grad school was more than 30 years ago)? You know; the one where you get to class and find there is a test and you haven’t been in class all term? I get it every year but with a twist. It is always about this time of year and especially true when the calendar plays the cruel trick of placing January 31st on a Friday. I know that calendar is set thousands of years in advance but it is like daylight savings time. I never save up that extra hour of sleep in the fall and always lose it in the spring; it takes me six months to catch up. I am sure serious athletes began training a week earlier knowing the Noque would fall on the early end of the window. For me it has been some time since I was serious about such things. I expect this is easy for those of you that enjoy Nordic skiing but I just make lemonade when all I have are lemons (I hear sugar helps). Next Saturday, hundreds of other skiers, each with their own motivation, will brave the elements to ski, snow shoe or fat tire bike various distances up to 50k. I expect I will do the 50k skate but Mo tells me real men do the classic. I could gas on about the beauty of the trail or the hundreds of volunteers or the quality of the snow but time and space are harsh task masters. The race site has real information on the trail and events; https://www.noquemanon.com/ It is a wonderful event and we are so blessed to live in such an area. I am still a few months short of where I want to be but next year…
I would be remis if I failed to highlight this date in history. At 37 N. latitude – 20 E longitude in 1251 BC a solar eclipse marked the birth of the legendary Heracles of Thebes. In other news, football is a stupid game.
Saux Head: Sunday noon Tim reported: Got 3-4 inches of lake effect during the night (ie, Saturday night). Had to repack the trail with the roller. Not expecting too much of lake effect tonight. Should be able to able to groom and set track tomorrow, Monday morning.
Big Bay Pathway: Hidden Grin was groomed Saturday and is ready to go. The trail is in excellent condition. The fresh snow hanging in the trees is beautiful.
Dennis and Nick groomed at 1 PM Saturday. I would add, I am not sure how much new snow fell after grooming.
Fit Strip: Heavy snow today.
Snow Bike South Trails: Apologies, I forgot to update yesterday. Trails were plowed Saturday and again Sunday. Trails will be firm with some loose snow in small areas.
Snow Bike North Trails: Due the amount drifting snow and trail head plow snow Saturday night, the only ridable North trails are the Pine, Penstock, BLP Rocks back to BLP trail head. Groomers will get out as soon as schedule permits.
THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4. Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
