Grooming January 28, 2020

Today’s report is brought to you by Ron Thorley and Superior Express Care:     Ron and Superior Express Care  are trail builder sponsors on the Noque’.  Without the support of folks like Ron and Superior Express Care we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect.  If you see them, say thanks.

Trail Builder sections are available.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

Forestville:  Today Andy is Bully grooming and tracking the Noque and Animoosh to Co Rd 510 including the Mead By Pass.  By the way, apparently groomers did not get the chance to groom from the ponds to NMU as we reported yesterday.  As of 2:30 yesterday that section was not groomed when I saw it.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

We all know the evil twin plot line and I am living proof.  I was kept in a (ski) box for the last 10 years while an entire world was created.  I took my new snow bike out for its maiden journey and it was awesome.  Except for the fact I now have “spring bike butt”, it couldn’t have been better. Getting to ride from one’s house to the NMU trail head is a plus but the trails are something you must experience to believe.  We followed the Tourist Park Basin trail to the Cedars to the Collinsville Dam.  Check out the ice curtains coming from the penstock and the mushroom snow pillows in the river.  Then we followed Blue Herron to the Forestville Dam.  The snow cover on the dam makes it almost invisible next to the bright overcast sky.  We took the Black List to Forestville and back via Pine Knob.  You really need to use the interactive map on www.noquetrails.org to see how to get to these spectacular views right in our back yard.  The riding surface was firm and traction was excellent.  In the cedar swamp the snow cover was complete and the trees were coated.  In the higher terrain we found ourselves riding in  a canyon of snow up to our waist; you couldn’t fall over.  I’ll probably ski today and give my spring bike butt a chance to heal.  See you out there.

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and set track yesterday, the 27th. Some sections of classic track are thin.  Skiing will be excellent today.

Big Bay Pathway:  Big Bay Pathway was groomed on January 24th.  Due to the occasional rain and wet/heavy snow, the tracks a few imperfections.  Hidden Grin is currently in fair condition.

Fit Strip:  Fit Strip was groomed Wednesday. After an inch of overnight snow the trails should be in very good shape.  Fit Strip is groomed weekly or as conditions warrant.

Snow Bike South Trails: Trails were plowed Saturday and again Sunday. Trails will be firm with good traction.  After a few inches of  snow each day the trails should be in very excellent shape.

Snow Bike North Trails: As of Tuesday night all North Trails in the system are rideable and firm. Riding will be great today.  After a few inches of snow every few days the trails in excellent shape.

THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4.  Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
