Grooming February 22, 2020
Today’s report is brought to you by Floline Media: Floline Media are Double Black Diamond sponsors on the Single Track trail system of the NTN. Without the support of folks like the Floline Media we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections and Snow Bike trail sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Andy Bully groomed all trails from the ponds east of the trail head all the way to Co Rd 510. Skiing will be spectacular.

Kind of Too Long Grooming Report:
Please don’t mistake these comments for the WTLGR below. This is, in my opinion, important information but you may both think it is kind of too long. NTN’s new Piston Bully grooming equipment shines in these late season conditions. There are two situations where big heavy power tilling groomers are necessary for excellent skiing. One situation is following a heavy snow. The Piston Bully can turn a foot of new snow into solid excellent skiing overnight. Ginzu grooming would take a week. The other situation where this state of the art equipment shines is following a thaw. After yesterday’s thaw and last night’s freeze, skiing will be better than excellent; it will be race ready. We are now into the part of winter that has historically meant some icy and less than ideal skiing; no more. Much of the world skis on man made snow or in freeze/thaw conditions. We are blessed with three months of blue wax snow; freeze thaw is a spring time phenomenon. Now we can enjoy March and April skiing every day; and not just in the Goldie Locks Zone. The NTN’s commitment to providing world class conditions on our world class terrain is a strong move. We believe, like the bad movie; if we build it they will come. Please come out and ski today; it will be awesome.
Way too Long Grooming Report:
Now, this section contains nothing that will be on the test. Yesterday’s report contained some nonsense about showing a picture of the Hogback snowfield shredded with spooned turns. I left the A.T. gear with the bike and skate skis in the basement and took the three pin teli gear. My flying telemark is a bit rusty and some of the exposed snowfield was wind packed and getting warm. I still think it was the right call but going off a cliff and springing a leak is problematic in the back country. My photographic skills did not do the skiing justice so I have only included view pictures. The skiing and the scenery were awesome. These size reduced pictures don’t show the Keweenaw Peninsula but Mt. Bohemia was clear as a bell. Our deep snowpack means March snow storms will yield excellent BC powder skiing opportunities. I’ll try to post pictures of the snowfield shredded with spooned turns later in the season. Sorry.
Saux Head: All trails were groomed and track set Tuesday the 18th. Saux Head is groomed about weekly. Please let us know what it is like today.
Big Bay Pathway: Denis groomed Monday the 17th. Some snow will have fallen so if you do ski Big Bay please let us know how you found the trails.
Fit Strip: Neil groomed all trails the morning of the 19th and the lighted loop the 20th. If you do ski the Fit Strip please let us know what you found.
