Grooming February 23, 2020

Today’s report is brought to you by Singletrack Health  and the Chris & Jennifer Dehlin Family:  Single track Health and the Chris & Jennifer Dehlin Family are Trail Builders on the Noque.   Without the support of folks like Singletrack Health and the Chris & Jennifer Dehlin Family we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect.  If you see them, say thanks.

Trail Builder sections and Snow Bike trail sections are available.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

Forestville:  Andy Bully groomed the Noque’ and Animoosh to 17k plus the Chiwagi by pass.  These trails will be race ready again even in the morning. It is incredible to have excellent skiing every day; even during a thaw/freeze cycle.  Enjoy the Bully groomed trails this morning; they will be awesome.  Other trails will likely be a little icy until they soften up later in the morning.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

In our last episode I admonished you to get out yesterday.  I am not sure it would have been criminal but if you did not get out there should be some sort of retribution.  Perhaps remorse is the only punishment.  I said it would be better than excellent and I fear it was under-sold.  Check out the beaver pond picture from mid-afternoon. These trails near Co Rd 510 are in a different climate; note the total lack of critter tracks.  When skiing or fat biking near town you see a dizzying array of critters running around on warm sunny days; they know better near 510.  By mid afternoon areas in full sun were beginning to get slow but the base remained rock hard.  Fortunately most of our trails are in at least partial shade.  This is especially true of Bagwagi and the hills on Chiwagi.  I should add, I was the first to ski out of the second hill on Chiwagi!  What a shame because those hill climbs were awesome even at 3 PM.  Shirt sleeve skiing on race ready snow.  We should all be so lucky.

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and track set yesterday the 22nd.  I expect best skiing will be after today’s temperature gets above freezing.  Please let us know what it is like today.

Big Bay Pathway:  Denis groomed Monday the 17th.   I expect best skiing will be after today’s temperature gets above freezing.  Please let us know what it is like today.

Fit Strip:  Neil groomed all trails the morning of the 19th and the lighted loop the 20th.  If you do ski the Fit Strip please let us know what you found.

Snow bike trails format comments:

I do hope riders used good sense regarding air pressure yesterday afternoon. Please be conscious of your track depth; if you are sinking in please drop your air pressure.  If a 3 LB tire still sinks in, please avoid that trail.  This is especially true in thawing conditions.  I didn’t see the ST trails late in the day so am unsure if they even got soft.  Last night’s freeze will have them firm again this morning.  If you have any first hand information please do pass it on.
