April 8, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

Today’s report is brought to us by all of our local businesses.  We are going to support our local businesses in the space this week as other media giants are calling  for a Buy Local Movement.  Consider purchasing gift certificates to your favorite business if they can’t provide service today.

I spoke with a skier the other day and he explained how he called a local sporting goods retailer rather than ordering an item over the internet.  Jeff was more than happy to oblige.  I bet your retailer will sell you what you need just like the faceless internet firms; only better.  Many of our friends and colleagues are suddenly in a different, and far worse, situation.  Please do what you can to help.  Buy local.

Please help us continue to groom as long as possible.  You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  No grooming again last night. Above freezing temperatures along with high humidity will have trails wet and maybe even soft.  Please stay off the trails if you are leaving ruts deeper than the surface corn.  Freezing temperatures are forecast to return each of the next three nights.  You don’t want to be the one that leaves deep frozen ruts.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I must tell you I did receive some guff for the last few day’s reportage.  As we get into silly season, it seems there are questions with regard to our level of sincerity. A letter poured in asking for my  fertilizer recipe.  The reader wanted to know how I achieved a consistency to allow such a steep angle of repose.  I wish to assure you both, while we (obviously) don’t take ourselves very seriously, the craft is considered sacrosanct. To that end, the bill of materials is not just given out.  Grooming report writers have jealously guarded their recipes since at least the rein of Pharaoh Sneferu. His engineer missed the proper consistency and the evidence remains for all to see. The Bent Pyramid of Dahshur will likely remind grooming report readers for another 4,600 years.  I should add, there is no truth to the rumor his family is pedaling with regard to it being a “design feature”.  I have bought enough custom software with bugs to know what it is even when called a “feature”.

With a little luck the weather will allow for grooming and skiing in a day or so and we won’t need such a  pile.  Sorry.

Saux Head:  I spoke with Craig Monday and skiing was quite nice.  There is a bare spot on the Pep-O-Day and one is beginning at the top of the Beast major hill but most trails are still well covered.

Big Bay Pathway:    Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Good skiing will be in each day’s Goldie Locks Zone.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails may be soft today.  Keep an eye on your artifact.  Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm.  We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful.  I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find.  Pictures will be appreciated.
