SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT: Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked. Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.
Forestville: Lori and Nick cleaned up skate lanes on Noque and Animoosh to end of Pines. Other trails have an inch of snow over existing base with light use. Tracks are good to fair across the system. Temps will rise quickly on today so hit it early. Lori says they will be cleaning up as we are able this week but looks like we may be on the final stretch of the season. Enjoy it while it lasts…

Way too Long Grooming Report: One can only imagine Lori and Nick’s thoughts as they trudged out to the trail head yet again last night. In some years the WTLGR would be leading with the forecast of 10’ surf on Tuesday? In many years, the sleds (and sled operators) would be enjoying spring evenings from the comfort of their front porch; not so this year. The commitment to keep skiing good regardless the date is both stunning and awesome. One hopes to jump from fall into mid winter conditions as well as jump from mid winter to summer conditions. In November we had maybe two days of what one calls “early season” conditions (please don’t quote me on the number of days of early season skiing, I did not go back to check and the brain has the ability to block out bad memories). From that first major snow in the fall we have experienced what can only be described as excellent skiing for the last five months. Not that I want to see the skiing to end but one hopes to have no question as to when grooming ends. As Lori commented, (they) “…will be cleaning up as we are able this week…”. Looking at the six day forecast of sub-freezing night time temperatures I do expect they will trudge out to the trail head yet again later in the week. One of these weeks we will see what Yoopers call, warm weather, maybe even a 48 hour thaw and it will be over. Seeing the huge number of smiling skiers on the trails in late April gladdens my heart and I expect Lori and Nick’s as well. So, enjoy it this week and remember the incredible effort going into making our goofing off so enjoyable.
Saux Head:
We are in thaw/freeze conditions so look at the four hour period after temperatures are forecast to climb above freezing as the best time to his the trails.
The Wilson Creek section was not touched due to insufficient base conditions.
Big Bay Pathway:
No report at press time
Fit Strip: Grooming has been suspended. Expect some bare spots.
Snow Bike Trails:
North Trails: The Pines, Penstock, BLP Rocks, Collinsville to trail head loop was groomed again Wednesday afternoon. Ridable in low temperature for the next a few days.
South Trails: Grooming is done on the South trails for the season.
