December 22, 2018 Grooming Report;

Thank you Trail Builders: Thank you Trail Builders: Today’s report is brought to you by  Marquette Maple Company.  They are feted at the 9k mark of  the Noque’.  Without folks like Marquete Maple Company  we would not be able to enjoy the great skiing we have come to expect.  So, if you see them, please say thanks.

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  Andy was out early and reported he could not set an acceptable track so he groomed skate lanes on Noque’ from FVTH to 510, Animoosh, Chiwaji Hills and the bypass route, Bagwaji, Muckwa, Migizi, Gookookoo, Papasay, Boozhoo and Zhing.  Groomer’s choice is for very good skate skiing.  Andy is planning on a classic track reset when it softens up a bit.

As always, your feedback is appreciated.    Send in pictures and you too can get your K marker moved to the front of the line.

Saux Head: Trails are groomed weekly.

Fit Strip: Trails are groomed about once per week.

Big Bay Pathway: Too little snow in the woods so trails are closed. The Big Bay Trails are groomed for classic skiing and are through the rugged hills south of Big Bay. They are spectacular but need ample snow to cover the rugged terrain.   We groom as weather permits so think cold and snow. Trails are just off Co Rd 550 in Big Bay.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:    Skiers have an incredible number of kilometers to cover today.  The smart skiers will be going out Bagwagi to Co Rd 510 and return via Chiwagi hills. The dumb-things-I-godda-do list is daunting but…

Too Long To Read Report:  Remember, nothing in this section will be on the test.  However, there are issues that arise that must be discussed.  I know most of you are too young to remember “Lang” boots”.  Those of you old enough are, like me, becoming forgetful in old age.  Now, when I say, Lang boots I am not referring to the plethora of models we see today.  No; in ’65 the ABS shell and buckle closure Lang boot was it.  If you have never put your foot in a “Lang Boot” you can only guess at the misery endured.  The inside of the boot was the same as the outside; hard plastic.  However, the ability to translate motion from the skier’s foot to the ski edge was unparalleled. Skiers would grimace as they won the race and take their boots off while still in the finish corral.  We put up with it and would do it again because the foot pain wears off and the brain over-writes the memory like it was never there.  The win however, is there forever.  So, when presented with new cross country boots that are not like Steve Marin’s Cruel Shoes, I wondered if I would be sacrificing speed for comfort.  After all, I don’t need comfort but rather something that won’t cause long term injury.  The jury is still out as I am wearing them around the house in an attempt to simulate three hours on Bagwagi.

See you out there.  I’ll be the one with the new boots or the one with the grimaced look.
