December 22, 2019 Grooming Report
A note to all trail users during thaw cycles: Trails will get soft late in the day. Please be conscious of your tracks. Deep ruts from skis, bikes or feet will freeze in place and ruin the trail. Please avoid leaving any deep ruts or tracks. If the trails are too soft to support your weight please consider and alternate activity. This thaw appears to be short and trails will suffer little if any lasting damage (but think snow).

Yesterday

Forestville: Warm temperatures kept the groomers parked last night. Skiing will still be quite good today but look for the time period just after temperatures reach 33f. Early morning skiers will find a hard and fast glaze on the surface. Late afternoon skiers may find a very soft and slow surface.

Way too Long Grooming Report: So the smart skiers went early yesterday. Never having been accused of that failing, I let all number of things get in the way and didn’t ski until mid afternoon. Well, it was a beautiful day to be outside. Late afternoon skiers found the skate lanes with “micro-shudder chatter squish”; a condition that takes a sport not designed to be fun in the first place and moved it into the “this is really not fun” zone. Each skate stride would be met with several little snow collapses under foot. These energy absorbing balance effecting microscopic events were pervasive. So, although I don’t like myself, I am actually not self-loathing so turned back well before co rd 510. Classic skiers suffered no such thing. With three pairs of skis in the car you would think one of them would be prepped classic skis; but, no. Classic skiers found the tracks Bombi cut and smooth as silk. On flat sections the smart skaters were double polling in the tracks. One could fly on auto pilot all the way to the lower Mead gate; it was spectacular.

Saux Head: The trail system was groomed and track set today, Friday, 12-20-2019. Very good skiing condition.

Big Bay Pathway: The Hidden Grin and Meditation Loops were groomed on Friday evening, 12/20. Both trails are in excellent condition.

Fit Strip: Fit strip is groomed once per week or as needed.
