December 31, Grooming Report;
Thank you Trail Builders: Thank you Trail Builders: Today’s report is brought to you by Craig and Phyllis Stien. Without folks like the Stiens we would not be able to enjoy the great skiing we have come to expect. So, if you see them, say thanks.
If you have not done so, please renew your membership.
Forestville Real Grooming Report: Monday mornings Kirby takes the Gator out with the 108 Ginzu to groom and reset classic tracks on the Noque’ and Animoosh to 17k. Andy will be out on the Chiwagi hills getting them groomed as they still have snow from the Friday storm. Friday mornings grooming on all trails except the Chiwagi hills will still be in very nice shape given the cold dry snow. With all trails open it is important to know when a given section was last groomed. As such, we have added yet another grooming report section below.

As always, your feedback is appreciated. Send in pictures and you too can get your K marker moved to the front of the line.
Saux Head: Sunday morning we groomed the skate lanes and track set all trails. Skiing is excellent on all trails.
Fit Strip: Trails are groomed about once per week.
Big Bay Pathway: Too little snow in the woods so trails are closed. The Big Bay Trails are groomed for classic skiing and are through the rugged hills south of Big Bay. They are spectacular but need ample snow to cover the rugged terrain. We groom as weather permits so think cold and snow. Trails are just off Co Rd 550 in Big Bay.
Way Too Long Grooming Report: I have played enough poker to know about betting on a “sure thing” so I always look askance when the weather forecast call it a 100% chance of snow tonight but I will wax my skis accordingly. All trails will be skiable all day from the weekend’s groom.
Too Long To Read Report: I have broken a good number of skis over the years and all have a great back story from which the sitzmark can only hint. Such an event may have taken place on Bagwagi this weekend. This weekend Jen astutely noticed boot tracks leaving an impressive sitzmark on Bagwagi. Forensic grooming report writers were called in and the team is split with a strong argument being made for a battery failure during a night ski. In any case, if you are the poor soul that had the long boot out, please do let the rest of the readership in on the back story and I will share with you some of mine. I think the story of Jack pushing one ski like a scooter around Saux Head is one of the better stories. We were enjoying an afternoon ski before dinner at Craig’s. Jack failed to navigate the cork screw downhill and sawed off the front half of one ski. “No problem, I’ll see you back at camp” Jack said as he began to do the “one ski scooter push” back to the trail head. Now, I have been skiing Saux Head for over 20 years and I still get mixed up as to which way to turn to find the shortest way back. There are 15k of loops so a wrong guess can result in quite a few extra K. On skies an extra 5 or even 10 is not that big an investment in time. However, pushing a “scooter” is another story. So you can imagine our surprise when Jack emerged from the darkness after having been lost. Then he reported the darnedest thing; he said, “There is another person out here doing the scooter push, I saw the tracks.”. All these events are more fun in the retelling than the actual event.
