April 4, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

A grooming report writer in the previous century had to balance a tea cup on his/her knee and shoot a rifle with equal proficiency to work in certain firms.  Lori can likely do that too.  When she is not convincing State officials to allow grooming she is out grooming.  We received this picture at midnight last night with the following commentary:

Tell the 510 Club that Noque’ is ginzu groomed with fresh tracks set from Forestville to 510. Watch for an occasional water hazard, thin spots in the hemlocks, and a few amateur groomer maneuvers. Probably really was the last 510 run..maybe…

Nick and I also ginzu groomed and tracked Animoosh to Migizi to Grand Central. And Gookookoo to Migizi to Grand Central before the rain started 🙁

Give Lori and Nick a big Thank You when you see them (from six feet away).

Way too Long Grooming Report:

Sorry, no ski/bike pictures from yesterday.  However, I find joy in all trials and yesterday was no exception.  In our last grooming report we discussed “thin places”; you know, where it is so spectacular you can almost see the supernatural?  One does not get to see thin places every day.  Check out this one from yesterday.

As for today and tomorrow, both look spectacular.  New snow on top of fresh grooming to Co Rd 510 will have the 510 club in action.  I’m sure everyone will remember where they stopped being a-symptomatic.  Can you beat the 23k marker?  See you there; from six feet.

Now, tomorrow looks to be a very special day indeed.  I feel compelled to talk about it a day in advance so you can both plan your day.  Tonight’s low is forecast in the mid teens F and Sunday’s high will top out in the 50s F with calm air.  Of course crust skiing will be spectacular but this rock hard fully consolidated snow pack will support snow bikes in the woods.  We have talked about this for some time and there have been a few days and a few spots where it was ok but tomorrow it will be spectacular.   I expect every big timber deep snow area will have conditions that will support a snow bike.  I do hope at least one of you pulls a biathlon; crust skiing/crust biking.  Do send pictures.  I will add one word of caution; don’t make the same mistake as Icarus.  I recall a couple of young skiers a life time ago slogging ten miles back after the crust got too warm.

Saux Head:  Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Good skiing will be in each day’s Goldie Locks Zone.

Big Bay Pathway:    I Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Good skiing will be in each day’s Goldie Locks Zone.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails will be rock solid until about 10:00 and then will begin to soften.  Keep an eye on your artifact.  Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm.  We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful.  I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find.  Pictures will be appreciated.
