April 5, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

Lori and Nick went out again last night when the rest of us were snug in our bed.  If you see them, say thanks.   We received this picture at midnight last night with the following commentary:

We smoothed skate lanes the best we could on Animoosh and Noque to 17k with the Ginzu. Also hit a loop out in the Chiwagi Hills. Combination of very deep ruts and weird snow required multiple passes. Skiers should expect variable conditions…from marbles to pretty darn good. Tracks are still in good shape from Friday night and older tracks still be used on other trails.

You have to study the before and after pictures to understand what they have done.  Running several passes with the Ginzu teeth at a shallow depth shaves ice much as a Zamboni on the ice rink; it “makes” snow.  Done properly one can turn an un-skiable surface into simulated Bully grooming.  These are remarkable picture.  We can not let this grooming go to waste.  See you out there.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

Today’s weather will have one smile just to be outside.  Adding skiing or biking to the mix will make it sublime. Crust skiing will be excellent as will trail skiing or biking.  Temperatures will rise above freezing by 9 and trails will soften by early afternoon. I am done nursing my chest congestion.   I remember my brother was a rally sports car driver in a previous life.  He told me stories about racing at Watkins Glenn with Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.  Dick explained you had to go hard into the corners, brake hard and accelerate hard out of the turn.  I have always found sports analogies applicable for life in general. You know, get over a cold and then enjoy an endorphin inducing over distance ski.  Maybe I am more experienced now.  I don’t have to hammer 30k and have lung cookies for lunch; but I do have to ski.  Enough of this, I need to clear my lungs first.  The run to 510 and back is only 28k after all.  See you out there.

Saux Head:  Tim got out grooming yesterday the 4th  on the  Race Loop and set track on the Peep O Day loop only. The Wilson Creek section was not groomed due to signs of bare ground on the steep downhills facing West.

Big Bay Pathway:    I Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Good skiing will be in each day’s Goldie Locks Zone.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails will be rock solid until about 10:00 and then will begin to soften.  Keep an eye on your artifact.  Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm.  We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful.  I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find.  Pictures will be appreciated.
