April 6, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

No grooming last night as temperatures failed to fall enough to dry out the base.

Please help us continue to groom as long as possible.  You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  No grooming last night but temperatures did fall to 32.  Trails will have set up by dawn.  Temperatures are forecast to climb to 50 by mid day with light air.  Expect quite nice skiing through the noon hour.  Please stay off the trails once they become soft.  With the six day forecast showing significant cloud cover with lows near freezing and highs in the 30s and 40s we will have a good base for weeks to come.  However, grooming will be not be possible on most nights with temperatures above freezing.  So, please don’t leave deep ruts.  If you are leaving 2”+ tracks, please avoid the trails.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I know my skis don’t like it when I anthropomorphize but they were crying out in pain yesterday.  I’m sure you both had your skis full of wax as we entered this abrasive snow period.  Not being one of the smart guys, I didn’t pour wax into my skis every single day.  In those halcyon days of mid-winter when snow crystals were microscopic one’s skis glided like silk on satin and you could go days without them making so much as a peep.  With yesterday’s corn snow crystals the size of, well, corn my skis took a beating.  And my wax and equipment are quarantined in another location.  Who would have guessed wax and related equipment would not make the “essential” list?  So, I am reminded of how the Germans lost the Bismarck. Having made it past the blockade the Bismarck was free to roam the world to cause destruction around the world.  However, it left without its fuel tanks being topped off and had to fight a battle it wished to avoid.  Its loss was a turning point in the sea battle and turned the tide of human events.  So, although not likely to have much of an effect on world events, not keeping my skis full of wax was a mistake I, and my skis, regret.

Check out the crust skiing going up the hill near 14k.  One rarely gets to BC crust skate ski such a climb with firm pole plants.  I do hope you got out.

Saux Head:  Tim got out grooming on the 4th  on the  Race Loop and set track on the Peep O Day loop only. The Wilson Creek section was not groomed due to signs of bare ground on the steep downhills facing West.

Big Bay Pathway:    I Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Good skiing will be in each day’s Goldie Locks Zone.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails will be rock solid until about 10:00 and then will begin to soften.  Keep an eye on your artifact.  Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm.  We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful.  I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find.  Pictures will be appreciated.
