night groom last night.  Wow! Have to ski today.  This spot looks like that slight false flat on the Animoosh section of the Pine Plantation.  Extra credit if you can superimpose a day time picture to show the spot.

Forestville: Lori and (I think) Nick were out in the small hours of the morning to clean the skate lanes on all trails between Forestville and Co Rd 510 except Bagwagi and Chiwagi hills. The classic tracks are still in very good shape from the last ‘Bully groom.  Cold overnight temperatures will have set the trails up in excellent shape.  Best to put off that sock drawer project for another day.

Fit Strip:  I expect the fit strip is hard pan with dirt and foot prints.  Any local knowledge would be appreciated.

Big Bay Pathway:    The Pathway was groomed Sunday, January 31.  Meditation and Hidden Grin are both freshly groomed and in great condition. We just need more snow..

Dennis

Saux Head: All trails rolled and then Ginzu groomed and track set on the 24th.

Snow Bike Trails:

NORTH TRAILS

Last Groomed:  1/28/21 on Upper Loop Trails (Collinsville, BLP Rocks, Blue Heron, Upper Blue Heron, Silver Lead & Peter’s Sandbox) along with Wildcat, Ramblin Man and Midnight Snack).  Remainder trails last groomed 1/22/21

Conditions: Continued cold temps have kept the base firm and fast with good coverage. The absence of freeze/thaw cycles since the last snow means less user generated trail degrading such as ruts and potholes to detract from the trail experience.  Infrequent rocks/roots showing through, mainly at the lower elevations/ along the river.

Caution Areas: Runoff from the penstock is collecting on the trail in 2 areas of BLP Rocks- in the ‘ice cave’ area under the penstock and further upstream, near the crossing across the river-  leaving icy sections of trail that require care.  Trail users can throw some sand found in the garbage can under the penstock on the ice to improve traction.  Those without studded tires or boot crampons should use caution.

Bottom Line:  Trails are in great shape right now

South Trails Grooming:

Rubin cleaned up OCR, Enchantment, Greywalls and Oak Hill Loop on Tuesday night the 26th

WTLGR:  There are two types of cross country skiers; the ones that ski like mad in (October?), November, December and January in order to avoid an embarrassing, misery filled day in late January and, the other kind.    Now that the Noque’ in in the rear view mirror some of us need to resist the urge to spend all day on that remodel project.  It is amazing how much you can get done if you skip the three hour ski (and the related après ski relaxation period).  Now one needs to place focus on such images as being dropped from the peloton on the first climb of the day or getting stuck to the sofa fabric or some such nonsense. Some worry about their pants fitting.  I fear putting on five pounds so I need new classic skis.  Whatever your motivation, today looks like a great day to try it out.
