Grooming February 12, 2020
Today’s report is brought to you by the Hendren-Wegemer Family: The Hendren-Wegemer Family are trail builders on the Noque’. Without the support of folks like the Hendren-Wegemer Family we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections and Snow Bike trail sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Doug is cleaning up the skate lanes on high traffic areas of the Noque and Animoosh and then grooming down to the Tourist Park and the NMU campus at the Fit Spot on Wright Street.

Yesterday at the upper Mead Bypass/Noque’ intersection near 23k (and Bully grooming in the foreground).
Way too Long Grooming Report:
So who was counting spiders in the basement yesterday? I’m sure snow biking would have been excellent but it was another day of spectacular Nordic skiing. With Bully grooming all the way to Co Rd 510 including the “Mead” Bypass, ideal snow and weather to boot, skiing was the clear choice. I know I have run on about the “Mead” Bypass ad nauseam but I fear neither of you have been out there since the new hilly section was added. I skied the Noque’-Mead Bypass loop clockwise yesterday and it opens up an entirely new look. If both trails are groomed my typical route has always been up the Noque’ and back via the Mead Bypass. Before the new hills were added there was no reason to ski counterclockwise because you missed all the great climbs. Now the Bypass section has some excellent climbs starting right from the snowmobile trail crossing. It is daunting as you can see most of the hill as you begin the climb with an uphill turn near the top. There are three other great climbs as well as roller coaster downhills with just the right speed and run out to reward you for the climb. In addition, the view looking the other direction is new and fresh. With light traffic west of 18k the run to 510 will be excellent again today.
Saux Head: Saux Head was groomed and track set Sunday. Trails should be in very good shape.
.
Big Bay Pathway: Trails were groomed Saturday and will be in good shape
Fit Strip: Neil groomed and tracked the classic loop and the lit loop Sunday.
Snow Bike South Trails:
One note, that section from under 553 up to the snowmobile trail is NOT OPEN. It will be open for the Polar Roll Race. It is not good for riding yet and it is dangerous as it crosses the snowmobile trail. Please do not ride this section.
Trails very firm, some icy spots may be under thick pines and hemlocks.

Snow Bike North Trails: As of last Wednesday night all North Trails in the system are rideable and firm. The section from the Tourist Park to NMU is groomed regularly and very nice. Jump on the corduroy on the north side of Wright Street across from Meyland Hall. I rode yesterday (Sunday) and it was great. I would add, there were a few slick spots under the evergreen trees west of the TP.
THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4. Come in and enjoy the fire and company.
