Now where’s that road runner. More in the WTLGR below
Forestville: Andy is running the ‘Bully on the Noque and Animoosh to 17k. An inch or two of new snow overnight combined with the morning hoarfrost will make for spectacular optics given today’s full sun. The non-groomed sections may be tough skate skiing but classic should be still spectacular on all trails. Well, the second skier and all behind him/her will find it spectacular. I expect the first skier will have to push through the little bit of new snow but will get bragging rights.
Fit Strip: Patricia skied the Fit Strip on February 16. She reported: “Much of the lighted loop had been groomed with fresh tracks. The north end is still without enough snow to track, but at least has a little more coverage. Full trees, clear skies, quarter moon, and the (very large-sounding) hooting owl (who owns the place) make a peaceful setting for an evening ski.”
Any more current information would be appreciated.
Big Bay Pathway: The Big Bay Pathway was groomed on the 16th.
Meditation and Hidden Grin are groomed and in excellent condition 👍
Saux Head: Tim groomed and track set the 17th. I skied Saux Head yesterday and it was excellent.
Snow Bike Trails:
NORTH TRAILS
Last Groomed: 2/17/21: Base is solid and well packed with overall very good coverage; occasional rocks and roots showing through.
Current conditions are about as good as they get for winter biking and trail running.
Be prepared for ice where trails go under the penstock
South Trails Grooming: Groomed February 16. Trails in excellent shape.
WTLGR: So I’m out for my morning constitutional yesterday and notice something not quite right on the ice. One of the joys of life is seeing fellow critters making their living. Nearly a mile out I needed binoculars to be sure it was anything. Then, suddenly, he/she realize he/she is being watched; where to hide? It stopped its eastward lope and began a kind of dance trying to decide which way to run. With no cover for a mile in any direction, the dance ended and the lope eastward resumed; everyone’s got to make a living so we each set about our day.
My dad called them brush wolves, not to be confused with timber wolves. They are a beautiful animal, rather bigger than Wile E of Looney Tunes fame. I understand some of Wile E’s family now live in Chicago and most, if not all, urban areas of the country. In any case, noticing critters before they see you is a rewarding experience. Remember, you don’t need to out run the bear or out swim the shark if you can position someone else in the kill zone. See you out there,
