Way too Long Grooming Report:
Look at Gookookoo yesterday afternoon! I must stress, “afternoon”. I made second tracks less than 1k from the trail head. Look at the crisp classic tracks. Look at the mesmerizing corduroy. The sun was out and the wind was not. The 23f temperature felt like beach weather. I would add, I made first tracks on Chiwagi hills. Now there were quite a few skiers but few took advantage of the world class skiing on Bagwagi and Chiwagi hills. This means skiers can have a second day of race ready skiing on the fabulous “Wagi” hills. In addition, grooming today with the Ginzu 108 on the high traffic areas of the Noque to 17k, Animoosh and Chiwagi hill by pass will yield race ready skiing there too. Skiing has been fabulous every day this year and it is not by accident. The grooming fleet is first rate and groomers take great care to make skiing fabulous. The 108” Ginzu is a full 9’ wide; two feet wider than the 84”. We can not always pull the wide Ginzu but because the trail is wide and hard today following the Bully groom, we can enjoy the benefits. In short, wider is better in that one can expect a skate lane free of any seam left by a more narrow skate lane drag. Skiing is not always fabulous, it just seems like it because the grooming is always fabulous. Today’s chance of “wintery mix” will put some age into the snow so the smart guys and gals will be out again today. Skiing post-thaw will still be excellent due to careful grooming but there is nothing like snow that has not seen the high side of freezing. I liken it to a fine claret. Just like grooming transformed snow, one can take grapes from a poor crop and add sugar to make good wine but it is not the same.
Saux Head: Tim groomed and reset the track, 1/13/2020. Light snow Saturday night will have covered trails but it is fluffy snow.
Big Bay Pathway: The Hidden Grin Loop was groomed Friday the 10th. Light snow Saturday will have covered trails but it is fluffy snow.
If you do ski please be aware, this is classic only and you may find rough areas. The terrain quite rugged and does need a good deal of snow just to cover. Please let us know what you find. I have not been on the Big Bay trails yet (bad dog).
Fit Strip: Neil groomed Friday night. Light snow Saturday night will have covered trails but it is fluffy snow.
Snow Bike South Trails: Trails remain in very good shape with a light few inches of weekend snow. You will see some drifting in open areas. Friday night trails were groomed including Main Loop, Enchantment, Mt. Marquette/Blue Loop, and Black to Border Grill. Heads up as there are still some water hazards on jeep trail descent and a few scattered locations.
Snow Bike North Trails: All sections of North Trails are solid with good tractions. Drifting snow on trails near open areas were mostly cleared.
THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4. Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
