Today’s report is brought to you by the Turner Family: The Turner family are trail builder sponsors on the Noque’. Without the support of folks like the Turners we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Andy groomed and tracked all trails inside 17k with the Bully. Doug groomed down to the Tourist Park and all the way to NMU’s Fit Spot trail head next to Meyers Hall in the heart of campus on Wright Street.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
I have to admit I wasn’t feeling it yesterday. I did ski but sometimes it is hard to find the fun. The day before was so magical. You know the type: over distance and everything was working. The weather was pleasant, the snow was excellent and the endorphins from an over distance ski had be enjoying the rest of the day and night. I was going for a repeat yesterday but it started bad out of the chute. First of all, I figured skiing from NMU’s campus would be a good idea but skating in 6” of new snow is “to win a bet” skiing at best even with light fluffy snow. So I made the long drive to Forestville; it must have taken at least 10 minutes. The trail was in great shape; so that made one of us. I was gassed on the first hill. I was reminded of deer camp. You know, all the serious hunters get their deer on the morning of the 15th. I swear they are on a first name basis and have it tied to a tree the night before. Then there are the good hunters that get their buck in the next few days. Finally there are the second week hunters. On that cold miserable day out stalking I don’t care how short the loop; someone has beaten you back to camp and has the best couch. I didn’t even stop to take a picture; sorry.
Saux Head: Due to the very heavy snow fall at Saux Head, the crew had to pack with just the snow mobiles yesterday and will be rolling this morning. Grooming and track setting will follow either later today or Saturday morning depending on the success of the rolling project. Saux Head is a micro climate that often gets far more snow than the rest of the area.
Big Bay Pathway: Big Bay Pathway was groomed Wednesday the 15th. Expect several inches of new snow from the past few days.
If you do ski please be aware, this is classic only and you may find rough areas. The terrain quite rugged and does need a good deal of snow just to cover. Please let us know what you find. I have not been on the Big Bay trails yet (bad dog).
Fit Strip: Neil groomed Tuesday the 14th. The Fit Strip is groomed weekly or as needed following heavy snow events. The (approx.) 5” of light snow on the 16th will have been skied in and packed down by walkers so skate skiing may be quite nice but the classic tracks may have been lost. Let us know what you find if you go out today.
Snow Bike South Trails: Reported the night of January 16: All open trails are plowed, mostly firm. 4-6 psi.
Huge thanks to the crew of volunteers that cleared trees on oak hill loop, we were able to groom it in earlier this week. The spur connecting oak hill to top of freak n nature is in as well.
Snow Bike North Trails: As of the 14th all sections of North Trails were solid with good tractions. Yesterday’s snow event will
