Forestville: All trails from the ponds below Forestville all the way to Co Rd 510 are groomed. Classic tracks have been re-set where conditions indicate but left as is in many areas and may be a little thin or rough. Skiing continues to be very good in spite of the appearances at lower elevations. Coverage is thin and there are a number of places where dirt or grass shows but can be easily avoided. The quality of snow remains very good and today’s fresh grooming on every single “K” in the system means plenty of good skiing for everyone.
Fit Strip: The Fit Strip was roll packed the week of new years but I expect this warm spell at the lower elevations has rendered the trails all but unskiable. Think snow.
Big Bay Pathway: Dennis sent the following: People are still able to enjoy skiing the Big Bay Pathway.
Yesterday I spent 2 hours walking part of the trail with my chainsaw and loppers. I trimmed and snipped brush and branches. Terry would be proud.
Today I took the Grizzly and groomed Meditation and Hidden Grin. While grooming, I also trimmed brush and removed exposed branches, this took 5 1/2 hours.
Now we are ready for snow next week, possibly Wed or Thur.
I have seen several people skiing as well as Powell Township school students and teacher.
Reg skied Big Bay yesterday and reported: Hidden grin is still skiable and probably could be regroomed.
Meditation and Hidden Grin was groomed on 1/2/21. Best Mountain and Ridgeline will be closed for 2021.
Saux Head: All trails were skate lane groomed on the 1st. MRT4 skied Saux Head earlier this week and indicated it was in rough shape but skiable.
Snow Bike Trails:
North Trails Grooming:
Late Sunday night we groomed to clean up ruts and smooth the trails on the following:
Basin Loop (Silver Lead, Collinsville, BLP Rocks, Blue Heron, Upper Blue Heron) and the Forestville Trails (Midnight Snack, Ramblin Man & Wildcat)
Coverage is thin with exposed rocks and roots, especially at lower elevations Use caution on BLP Rocks as there are a couple of icy areas.
South Trails Grooming:
South Trails were groomed Sunday.
Mt. Marquette loop, Main loop, Enchantment loop, and Old Camp Ridge……OCR still needs some work but is ridable.
Also groomed Eh-line but its not going to be ridable for a bit yet.
*****warning****
Watch out for the ice on the bottom of Mt. Marquette loop (aka Jeep Trail). We sanded it the best we could, but its still going to be slick.”
WTLGR: Tom skied to 510 yesterday and reported the following: Your report of yesterday motivated me to try 510. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the skiing was. I’m a dyed-in-the-wool strider (with the knickers to prove it) and the 1/4” of fresh powder in the tracks provided superb grip and smooth glide. I considered making a loop but the bypass did not look as inviting as what I had just enjoyed. There was one spot of uneven subsurface terrain on the Noque that caused the ginzu to scrape a bit of dirt but otherwise the clean, crisp corduroy and firm tracks were in fine January form.
Kelly skied the bypass and sent the picture (sorry, we are still working to get pictures in this post) and the following comments: First hill east of gate had some branches on trail. Otherwise wonderful!
