November  15, 2018;  Grooming Report

Forestville Real Grooming Report:  It has been 4 days of skiing on the roller packed Noque to 17k, Animoosh, Papasay, Boozhoo, Zhing, and the stadium. Continued cool weather has kept trails in good shape. The surface is uneven but coverage is very good.

Our call for feedback produced comments from Jack, Laurie, Vivian and Joe just to name a few.  The most useful write up follows: “Out at 9:30 AM and the center of the trail is well packed, narrow and bumpy, and the edges powdery. Around 12 K the Noque path widens and continues to 14 and skating is good. Coming back the hill demands more than the usual caution and the sun improved the snow condition. Awaiting good conditions for the equipment to groom.  Jack”
Way Too Long Grooming Report:   I had the great good fortune to ski last night.  What a great thing.  Where else east of the Mississippi can one get in 15k after work?  My real headlamp’s battery has given up the ghost so I got to test my night vision with a waxing half moon. “Feeling” the terrain with my feet and slipping into the telemark position on the down hills I was pleased with myself for remaining upright to the end.  Then, I remembered the skills demonstrated by Torstein Skevla and Skjervald Skrukka.  They didn’t have any grooming, had to carry a heavy pack through a blizzard at night and their boots were made of birch bark!  Imagine where we would be now had King Haakon not been placed on the throne.

See you out there.

PS: Skiers are reminded to wear orange and to respect hunters.  No grooming can take place during the day until December 1st to keep the woods quiet during fire arm deer season.  For extra credit, what year did we get the blaze orange Noque’ hats?
