Grooming December 20, 2020

THANK YOU BOB. We have this great skiing due to the selfless work of long time NTN member Bob. If you see him say, Thank You. Check out his U.P. engineered grooming equipment.

Bob re-groomed the Mead Hills By Pass trail down to the cabin about 4k from the trail head. You can see the steep hill off to the left where the grooming stops. That is the ski trail route and it is too rugged to ski with this snow cover. The regular race trail was also groomed last night from Co Rd 510 to the “lower Mead Gate” near the 19k mark. This freshly groomed section is only 8’ wide and skiers are cautioned to take care on the steep down hills.

I do hope you went out yesterday, skiing was great. (ed note, “great” is not on the continuum of, Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, Excellent; “great” is more of an emotional analog rating.

Yesterday’s “out and back” 4k section reminded of our friends in Wisconsin on the gerbil loop. I bet they have been skiing for a month. Anyway, knowing the out & back is an 8k loop one is left with the same question posed when seeing crème brûlée on the desert tray: Is two enough? We are typically spoiled by more “K” than one can ski in a day. Today’s extra 8k out and back means we only have to ski everything twice to get 32k. Enjoy.

A word on Parking: What a great thing. We have too many cars at the ski area. A skier suggested we add a cautionary tail about parking. The thought was if we suggested an orderly process life would improve. After all, a bunch of bees conspire to build an orderly hive; how hard can it be? Sure Louis XIV re-designed Paris but that doesn’t mean we should have orderly parking. I am reminded of the group writing project game where 20 or 30 people conspire to write a story: each one adds a sentence. It spirals into chaos rather quickly. It is an organic process; like crystals in nature. They can be beautiful. Of course, then there are nature’s mistakes. Look at the duck billed platypus or an elephant seal. I am anxious to see nature’s course today.

See you out there
