Today’s report is brought to you by the Bill and Rita Short family:
The Shorts sponsor the Grand Central Station intersection on the Noque’. Without the support of folks like the Shorts we would not have the great trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
Comments on yesterday’s conditions: So I didn’t ski yesterday but rather waited for the incubation period to run out. Being exposed to influenza gives one the opportunity to see the bullet before it arrives. Of course, I thought contraction was like smoke following the wicked around a camp fire. I was thinking the far end of an over distance out and back would not be the place to experience first symptoms. So, I guess you don’t see the bullet.
Reasons to go today: Winter is great. Can you imagine sleeping in until 7:30 in the summer? I would feel so guilty it would ruin the day. With the sun rise at 8:33 one can feel ok about such an indulgence. With little more than eight hours of daylight one packs everything in. It is like the energy of a party in a slightly undersized room. Gas will fill a chamber completely just as time and party goers. The only way to achieve the same energy in summer is to treat each day as two separate events. With 17 hours of daylight it is really more than two days. Regardless that, one has to plan an over distance ski today. Moderate temperatures, light air and race ready conditions await. Just make sure there is plenty of Vernors ginger ale upon return in case the bullet strikes after all.
Saux Head: Tim groomed yesterday afternoon the 3rd and then the sled stopped working due to engine overheating. He got most of trail skate lane done and reset some new track and plans to finish it all early this morning.
Big Bay Pathway: The Big Bay Pathway was groomed on Tuesday night, 12/31. The Hidden Grin Loop has a firm base, with nice classic tracks. There are a few sections that are a bit bumpy, however all downhill sections are in very good condition. We did have warm weather on the 2nd followed by a freeze so snow will have transformed somewhat.
Fit Strip: Neil groomed all trails New Year’s Day. I have not heard about the effect of the mini thaw. Foot traffic is a problem at the Fit Strip so you may see foot prints in the now hard snow
Snow Bike South Trails: Main loop and enchantment are open, “probably” firm. Please be attentive to what your tire pressure leaves behind you.
East side (mt mqt/blue loop) is open, with some drifted areas on north side and some water hazards on jeep trail descent.
Trail opening and grooming is ongoing during the day Friday and Saturday, thanks for your patience!
Snow Bike North Trails: The North Trails main loop from BLP Trail Head along the Pine, Penstock, Blue Heron to the Forestville Trail Head and back down along Rambling Man, Silverlead and Collinsville have been groomed to pack down traffic Thursday night prior to the temperature drop, and are expected to be in very good riding condition through the weekend and into the next week. The Wildcat is not ridable as of now.
THE FORESTVILLE TRAIL HEAD CHALET IS OPEN! Chalet hours are 7 AM to 10 PM and rental equipment is available between 10 and 4. Space is still limited during construction but come in and enjoy the fire and company.
