It is hard to capture this scene in a photograph. You are perched on the edge of a canyon. If you zoom into the ice window you can see the torrent beneath. Mail Chimp only allows a small picture but the web site has a better resolution picture. The entire spillway is a curtain of ice with water roaring below.
Forestville: -11f at 8:30 on its way to a high of 20 today. Trails will be hard. No word on grooming at press time but I expect all trails to be quite nice. We have had a light dusting each day and the cold weather has traffic quite low. Enjoy.
Fit Strip: Patricia kied the Fit Strip last night, February 16. She reported: “Much of the lighted loop had been groomed with fresh tracks. The north end is still without enough snow to track, but at least has a little more coverage. Full trees, clear skies, quarter moon, and the (very large-sounding) hooting owl (who owns the place) make a peaceful setting for an evening ski.”
Big Bay Pathway: The Big Bay Pathway was groomed on the 16th.
Meditation and Hidden Grin are groomed and in excellent condition 👍
Saux Head: Tim plans to groom and track set today, the 17th.
Snow Bike Trails:
NORTH TRAILS
Last Groomed: 2/16/21 (lower loop): Base is solid and well packed with overall very good coverage; occasional rocks and roots showing through.
Current conditions are about as good as they get for winter biking and trail running.
Be prepared for ice where trails go under the penstock
South Trails Grooming: Rubin groomed on the 14th. Trails are very firm with a bit of fresh snow on them.
WTLGR: So I’m giving up aerosol cheese for the next 40 days. I k now that doesn’t sound like much of a sacrifice but think of the full effect. It is not unlike the guy that gives up green olives. It is likely he will miss the gin and hint of vermouth far more than the garnish. I guess you could use those pickled onions or some other garnish but I have never tried it myself. I know you every-day-skier/biker/runners will think this is no big deal but some of us miss a day now and then. I like to pat myself on the back if I get out six out of seven days every week but that is really rather weak tea. I am reminded of Every Day Dale’s remarkable achievement. Imagine surfing at least three waves every single day for over 40 years. In storm surf, health issues and growing old, he was out there. He passed a kidney stone out there! So, skipping the couch and the delicacy of cheese squirting from a can for 40 days should be child’s play. No? See you out there.
