Grooming February 18, 2021

Marquette Mountain Ski Area as seen from the snow bike trail at the top of Benson Hill; February 17, 2:00PM.

Forestville:  The Noque and Animoosh from the ponds to 17k is freshly ‘Bully groomed.    All other trails are also in very good shape all the way to co rd 510.  In addition, Doug groomed down from Forestville to the NMU trail head yesterday.  Snow below the rr crossing at the 5k mark is thin but skiable.

Fit Strip:  Patricia kied the Fit Strip on February 16. She reported: “Much of the lighted loop had been groomed with fresh tracks. The north end is still without enough snow to track, but at least has a little more coverage. Full trees, clear skies, quarter moon, and the (very large-sounding) hooting owl (who owns the place) make a peaceful setting for an evening ski.”

Big Bay Pathway:    The Big Bay Pathway was groomed on the 16th.

Meditation and Hidden Grin are groomed and in excellent condition 👍

Saux Head:  Tim groomed and track set the 17th.

Snow Bike Trails:

NORTH TRAILS

Last Groomed: 2/17/21:  Base is solid and well packed with overall very good coverage; occasional rocks and roots showing through.

Current conditions are about as good as they get for winter biking and trail running.

Be prepared for ice where trails go under the penstock

South Trails Grooming:  Groomed February 16. Trails in excellent shape.

WTLGR:  Day one of my penance off aerosol cheese took me to the South Trails.  Typically on the North Trails (when not skiing), riding South was new and exciting.  If you didn’t get out yesterday I trust it was due to a ruptured brain aneurism or worse. Light air, full sun, comfortable temperatures, fresh grooming and rock hard grippy snow.  I think we rode every groomed trail starting at the foot of Mt. Marquette.  It is hard to pick a highlight but have to tell you about the bob sled like downhill from Benson.  It is hard to imagine but there are people that have never ridden down the EA line (not to be confused with the A train one takes to lower Manhattan).  When the snow is hard and grippy going down dozens of banked turns the G force lets one get horizontal if not negative.  If you don’t have a snow bike you need to adjust your priorities.  See you out there.
