Grooming December 20 2021

Looking east just past the “Lower Mead Gate” at 20k

Forestville Trails:

Groomers cleaning up the skate lanes on trails inside 17k.  All trails are skiable except for the eastern hilly section of the “Mead Bypass”.  Coverage is still good but watch for hidden rocks; especially under the power lines just east of the 11k mark.  There are no groomed classic tracks but skied in tracks are getting used.  Use extra care on the down hills as there are no soft landing spots.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:  It’s the time of year when good boys and girls start to dream about sugar plums and new bicycles.  The rest of us are calculating what can be done to offset 11.5 months of horrid behavior.  I looked it up and curing cancer combined with world peace would get me to breakeven.  With such long odds it is time to study alternatives.  For example, the Spruce Street critic has been particularly good, so I might get her a new foil board.  I’m not sure she will like it, but someone will use it.  Then, all I’m going to ask for is a new water bottle.  I got my current bottle is obsolete.  I got it 10 years ago attached to a bike with 26” wheels. May all of your holiday wishes come true.

Saux Head Trails:  I expect a mix of ice and bare spots until more snow.

Fit Strip:  I expect a mix of ice and bare spots until more snow.

Snow Bike “North Trails”  I expect a mix of ice and bare spots until more snow.

Snow Bike “South Trails”   Cary reports South trail Biking is excellent where the snowbike trail has been previously groomed by a snowmobile prior to the thaw. Studs are highly recommended as it is icy, but riding is very good. Cary has ridden every trail doing tree clearing and can recommend snow biking as a good activity this week.

See you out there,

Sondo
