SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT: Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked. Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.
Forestville: No grooming last night due to above freezing temperatures. However, early morning skiers may find quite good skiing as most trails did freeze at some point in the night. Temperatures are already above freezing so please stay off the trails once they get soft.
Please note the foot prints right in the ski trail near Forestville. How could anyone do that. If you see this taking place, please politely explain why they should not walk on the trail in the soft snow. Again, be polite because these people clearly don’t understand what they are doing. Similarly, look at the ski tracks left in the freshly groomed soft snow. One of the spring grooming techniques is to groom before the freeze. If the corn snow is of the proper condition, the Ginzu can remove deep ruts and even foot prints and leave a nice surface that will set up for skiing the next day. If you are out late in the day and see fresh grooming please stay off that trail. Look at the effect caused by a single skier.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
Yesterday I requested some medical advice. You know, should I ski while my lungs are congested. Letters poured in. Fully half the readership sent in a bag of dirt to rub on it and said they are called “big boy pants”. The other letter said they are called lung cookies and I should try them. Regardless that, I received some professional advice as I was owed a favor. My friend at Delphi said this was a good time to have clear lungs. Of course, I am not at all sure the Oracle knows what she is talking about either.
In the end, I had to cut myself out of the sofa fabric just to take a walk on the beach. If you didn’t get outside yesterday I do hope you had a good reason. It was one of those spectacular days that make you want to simply stand and take it all in.
Check out the “Thin Place”
Each season has a few such days where you just enjoy looking around. I didn’t ski or bike but such is life; I got to enjoy a “thin place”. The ancient pagan Celts, and later, Christians, used the term to describe mesmerizing places. They believed in such places you could almost see through the tin veil between reality and the spiritual world. Over thousands of years the ancients can still speak to us. Cold overnight temperatures and dead calm air allowed a paper thin ice layer to form. One had to look closely to see where the ice ended and water began. The ice sections protected the water spaces from showing even the ripples you see in a mill pond. Look at the reflections and the bright blue sky. It was still in the 20sf but the still air belied the temperatures. The snow was like so much poly styrene foam. Today looks like another great day to be outside. Now where is my knife; I have to cut my way out of this couch.
Saux Head: All trails were groomed and track set Saturday. A freeze overnight will mean icy early. Best skiing will be from 10 AM until about 12:00 before it gets too soft.
Big Bay Pathway: I expect the classic tracks are quite thin and dirty. A freeze overnight will mean icy early. Best skiing will be from 10 AM until about 12:45 before it gets too soft.
Fit Strip: Grooming has been suspended. Expect some bare spots.
Snow Bike Trails: Trails will be rock solid until about 10:00 and then will begin to soften. Keep an eye on your artifact. Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm. We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful. I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find. Pictures will be appreciated.
