April 2, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

Today’s report is brought to Lori and Nick:  Lori and Nick went out at midnight  with the Ginzu.  I do hope you did get out to enjoy it.

You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  Lori and Nick ran the Ginzu to 17k on the Noque and Animoosh.  Check out the pictures before and after.  I think Lori was underselling it by saying it would be “ok to good conditions”. Classic tracks look thin but the skate lane looks very good to excellent to me. In addition, early skiers will have ideal crust skiing conditions. When combined with spectacular weather, the total experience will be fabulous (ed note, “fabulous” is not on the P, F, G, VG, E WTLGR conditions continuum).

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I do wish it were one of those raw windy drizzly days during which you just want to curl up with a good book or reorganize the spice cabinet.  But no! It is perhaps the most spectacular crust skiing day of the year.  And, to boot, the Noque is groomed to 17k so finding good crust areas is a cake walk.  Now I have to weigh the options.  Being old and decrepit I had considered nursing milking this chest cold another day.  When I was young and decrepit I would simply go out regardless the weather and say, “its just a cold” and get bronchitis or pneumonia.  So I need some medical advice; is that whole “blowing out the carbon” thing real? Is this plan a sign of maturity or laziness?  Am I about to become one of those guys that needs to be cut out of the sofa fabric?  Should I just rub some dirt on it and put on adult pants?  Of course I am far to cheap to actually go to a doctor and who would spend the two hours necessary for the opinion on such a beautiful day anyway.  So, any free advice will be appreciated.  Of course, I am reminded of the young history PhD that jumped up following an urgent cry, “is there a doctor in the house”.

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and track set Saturday.  A hard freeze overnight will mean icy early.  Best skiing will be from 10 AM until about 12:45 before it gets too soft.

Big Bay Pathway:    I expect the classic tracks are quite thin and dirty.  A hard freeze overnight will mean icy early.  Best skiing will be from 10 AM until about 12:45 before it gets too soft.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails will be rock solid until about 11:00 and then will begin to soften.  Keep an eye on your artifact.  Please don’t be the guy/gal that cuts up the trail when it is too warm.  We could have great snow bike trails in the higher elevations for weeks if we are all careful.  I haven’t seen any of the trails so let us know what you find.  Pictures will be appreciated.
