April 9, 2020 Grooming Report
GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu as long as we can!
Today’s report is brought to us by all of our local businesses. We are going to support our local businesses in the space this week as other media giants are calling for a Buy Local Movement. Consider purchasing gift certificates to your favorite business if they can’t provide service today.
I spoke with a skier the other day and he explained how he called a local sporting goods retailer rather than ordering an item over the internet. Jeff was more than happy to oblige. I bet your retailer will sell you what you need just like the faceless internet firms; only better. Many of our friends and colleagues are suddenly in a different, and far worse, situation. Please do what you can to help. Buy local.
Please help us continue to groom as long as possible. You may follow the link https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report. No contribution is too small.
Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT: Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked. Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.
Forestville: Trails did freeze last night so look for the Goldie Locks Zone to begin late morning and continuing all afternoon given the overcast sky. Crust skiing will be excellent if you find wide open untracked areas. Sands plains comes to mind if there is good cover.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
I thought I had guff in the mail bag Tuesday. Yesterday I was schooled in no uncertain terms. The whole Egypt, desert, Pharaoh, pyramid thing was way off base. By my count, 100% of the readership thinks more time should be spent extolling the virtues of April in the U.P. Joe says it his favorite time of year with trail running, snow biking, mountain biking, kiteboarding and Nordic skiing. Of course he left out water skiing & down hill skiing, kayak/SUP, road biking and equestrian (but then you need a horse). The only thing missing is biting insect slapping. Think of the literary gap had T. S. Eliot the benefit of carbon fiber bicycles, skis and kite boards. The Waste Land would have likely been re-named. Can you imagine his silky dour baritone delivering a bright chipper ode to spring? If you haven’t listened to the recordings please go to youtube right away. Just like Shakespeare it only make sense if read aloud. I am reminded of an old TV commercial for some shaving product. The hero is bemoaning “I’m getting a terrible shave…I’m getting a terrible shave.”. When his domestic associate tires of hearing it, she gives him the new shave cream (or razor, I forget which. If you do find it please send a link) and the scene is replayed. He gives the same dour deliver only the words have changed to “I’m getting a wonderful shave… I’m getting a wonderful shave”. I fear a tortured mind delivers more poignant poetry. I doubt T. S. would be a household name today had the Waste Land been renamed, Wonderland, or some such cheery nonsense. Now I have to decide, crust skiing? Snow biking? Etc. Life is tough here in April. See you out there (from six feet).
Here are the pictures I should have run yesterday from Tuesday’s ski. I apologize for the tardy delivery. Please do send in pictures; I will run them (if I am paying attention).
Saux Head: Trails will be rock hard until late morning. After noon skiing may be quite nice if trails soften. There is a bare spot on the Pep-O-Day and one is beginning at the top of the Beast major hill but most trails are still well covered.
Big Bay Pathway: Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone. Trails will be rock hard until late morning. After noon skiing may be quite nice if trails soften.
Fit Strip: Grooming has been suspended. Expect some bare spots.
Snow Bike Trails: Trails will be rock hard and likely slick in the morning. Trails may soften in late morning. After noon it may be quite nice if trails soften.
