Please help us continue to groom as long as possible.  You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  Lori and Nick ran were out last night having as much fun as you can with a snowmobile and reported the following:

Two inches of slop on top made grooming challenging as snow bunched up on the implements. Excuse the occasional speed bump. We had to make multiple passes with the roller before we took multiple passes with the ginzu.  We were only able to hit Noque and Animoosh to Grand Central but we did set classic tracks! Fair to good conditions. Note that this week took a toll on the snow. We are very thin and quite dirty in spots and parts of the Trail are narrowing including the powerline. Skiers should consider changing out to the rock skis if they haven’t already and just be ready for spring obstacles. Doug plans to roll more of the trail in the morning in prep for the weekend. Enjoy!

Fresh snow grooming April 10

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I had a wonderful snow bike ride yesterday.  You may have thought it was raw and outside activities would be in the “no fun tour” category; not so.  Riding from low elevation mid morning had me at Forestville when it started to snow and blow hard from the north.  Dressing for 30f and wind is chil’s play compared to mid February.  In the trees the wind was but a sound effect.  Anyway, it reminded me of bumping into the last known snow bike denier the other day.  I had thought the species extinct once I exited the ranks.  We had all just completed a wonderful ski and everyone was comparing plans for the afternoon.  Three of us were going snow biking but the fourth blurted out that he is against snow bikes; I like to ski too much, I would never go, he said.  There was bright sun on the calm morning so if you squinted just right you could almost imagine he was not rationalizing; I know the type.  They have one thing in common.  You might think it is a love of skiing; well yes.  However, my regression analysis shows a correlation of 1 for being frugal; not cheap, frugal.  Cheap stiffs the server after a nice meal.  Frugal pretends he/she isn’t hungry for desert because his/her date ordered the entree at “market price”.  It seemed there were no more when I switched to the dark side. Clearly, everyone needs a snow bike.  I should add, I get no remuneration from either the orthopedic surgeons or the bike retailers (but I do have a frequent flyer card and with one more punch I get a free orthopedic surgical procedure).  Be careful.  If you ride long enough you will inevitably fall off; and not just once.  Which reminds me of the frugal thing again.  I saw Wally yesterday and he explained it this way.  “You tell her a studded tire wheel set will be the best $500 you ever spend (as he pointed to the chicken bone sticking through his shirt) You are much less likely to get injured but way more likely to have more fun.

Saux Head:

Trails will be rock hard until late morning.  After noon skiing may be quite nice if trails soften.   There is a bare spot on the Pep-O-Day and one is beginning at the top of the Beast major hill but most trails are still well covered.

Big Bay Pathway:

Trails are still well covered but classic tracks are likely gone.  Trails will be rock hard until late morning.  After noon skiing may be quite nice if trails soften.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Trails will be rock hard and likely slick in the morning. Crust woods riding will be good again this morning.    Trails may soften in late morning.  After noon it may be quite nice if trails soften.

Starting from lake level with zero snow and winter near Forestville.  Remember before 5” tires, one had to turn back at spots like this.

It looks like you could ride across the ice but I post holed up to my thigh around the edge.

Here is Justin as they crust ride through the woods. I’m not sure where but it looks like Negaunee Township and that isn’t spilling the beans on a powder pocket.
