Please know, I am in my scratchiest hair shirt after my chat with Google Maps. It seems searches for the crème brûlée desert have been trending. Not frequenting restaurants that feature a postre cart you will have to forgive me for such an embarrassing gaff. Will I have to give back my Peabody? I am reminded of the prank pulled on a co-worker. In the days before password protection this poor individual had his spell check dictionary altered so dozens of frequently misspelled words would be automatically changed to be incorrect. It was great fun. Now, while I don’t believe in karma, I am still subject to its effect.

Fortunately I can hide on the ski trails; no one will see me there. Check out the picture from yesterday. Again, light air and perfect temperatures greeted skiers. Snow, although very thin, was very nice. Again, the real skiing was on Mead By-pass from Co Rd 510 to the cabin near the eastern end of the by-pass. However, an eight foot wide path on the Noque’ is skiable and sections are quite nice. Skiers will find several inches of “whips” sticking through the snow in many areas but the coverage is complete.

Second only to “Hold my beer and watch this”, “We could make a loop out of this” is a common prelude to Yooper misadventures. From the trail section near the cabin you can see several tracks to the north and others to the east. Both will get you to the Noque’ where you can ski back from the “lower Mead Gate” at the 19k mark. I would recommend following the tracks to the east down the road rather than over the very rugged hills to the north but it depends on your pain threshold. Skiing this loop counter clockwise is the safe bet. Going counter clockwise you get to climb the major hills at 21k and 22k. Going east you may encounter that pain threshold thing on the rather narrow down hills. In any case, enjoy. Today looks to be another great day outside with light air and 30f high. An inch of snow is likely to fall after noon with more later in the week. The lake effect snow machine is in high gear so each day we tend to get a bit more. We will have enough for regular grooming in no time.

See you out there
