Chalet is now open!  Hours are M-F 10-4 and S-S 9-4.

Forestville Trails:

Andy Ginzu scratched the surface of skate lanes on the Noque/Animoosh all the way to Co Rd 510.  He reported a number of thin spots with exposed dirt but also some nice sections.  Cary skied to 19k yesterday and reported some dirt is showing in spots. Tracks are bomb proof and in good shape, except where dirt is showing. Beyond 16k there corduroy and skating wouldn’t be horrible. Below 16k he recommended rock skis, and get in the tracks and double pole.  Downhills are a bit treacherous, even at 17 and 18k bridges.  He summarized, “I had good double polepalooza…”.

He also reported the road to the trail head is quite icy.  I expect rear wheel drive vehicles will be parking at the bottom of the hill.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:  Our Finish ancestors observed Jako-aika and celebrated Louhi this time of year. People burned candles and torches to keep evil spirits away;  and we think Yooper winter days are short.  Before Louis le Grand illuminated Paris, the winter solstice was dark and foreboding so festivals celebrated the return to increasingly longer days. Well, except for the addition of electric lighting, little has changed; it is still dark and foreboding, and we still celebrate festivals and exchange gifts.   Hanukkah came early this year so any Hanukkah skis had to sit for a few weeks.  The first day of Kwanzaa is today and it’s the second day of Christmas. Druids celebrated the solstice last week. Regardless your winter festivities, I do hope they are joyous. Did you get that new water bottle?…foil board?…snow blower?  I am enjoying my new cork sole house shoes; they are transformative.  Who knew? Happy holidays.

Saux Head Trails:  Trails will be icy.

Fit Strip:  Trails will be icy.

Snow Bike “North Trails”  Cary reported the trails near FV were said to be excellent.

Snow Bike “South Trails”    South trails:  trails icy and bare in spots, but I just had a nice short ride.  The worse parts are by lk superior. but very rideable with studs. I’d avoid them without. If running, spikes are recommended over snowshoes but definitely have some type of grip.

See you out there,
