Grooming December 28, 2021

Chalet is now open!  Hours are M-F 10-4 and S-S 9-4.

Please purchase your trail pass.  Without your support none of this would be possible.  Besides, we did

a study and, trail supporters have 83% more fun.

Forestville Trails:

All trails from the ponds to Co Rd 510 were roll packed last night.  Then, all trails inside 17k were Ginzu groomed and track set.  Andy reports the classic tracks “vary in quality”.

Way Too Long Grooming Report:

Feeling the way sailors below deck felt in the 19th century, I am “under the weather”, so this wonderful news of groomed snow has me less excited than normal.  I can say woohoo but I expect both of you are saying “WOOHOO!”.  The fact it was groomed in the middle of the night should have you especially stoked.  The high moisture content snow combined with cold overnight temperatures will have set up the base in good shape.  I know the snow bike trails are reported as being icy with the new snow failing to marry the crusty base but I expect that is not the case on the ski trails due to the overnight grooming.  Please do let me know so we can let the other reader know.  Or, as the salty dogs would say, “I am under the weather bow”.

Saux Head Trails:  Trails are being roll packed today.

Fit Strip:  Groomers will be out ASAP but no word as of press time.

Snow Bike “North Trails”  The entire North System from Kirby’s Hill west (except for Midnight Snack and Mildcat) was groomed afternoon of 12/27.

1-4″ of fresh light powder on the trails.

Base remains thin, especially at lower elevations where rocks and roots are still coming through.

The new snow didn’t completely bind into the old base, so in places the fresh top layer may shear off to expose underlying ice, use caution in exposed areas such as near the dam at the top of Blue Heron

Overall conditions quite good.

Snow Bike “South Trails”    Rubin reports OCR, Enchantment loop, Greywalls, Oak Hill are groomed with ridable conditions. There is a lot of ice, so studs are recommended.

Check out the beautiful pictures.  Extra credit to the first rider that can identify the spots.

See you out there,

Sondo
