Grooming February 19, 2020
Today’s report is brought to you by Tom & Vicki Asmus: Tom and Vicki are Trail Builders on the Noque’. Without the support of folks like Tom and Vicki we would not have the excellent trails we have come to expect. If you see them, say thanks.
Trail Builder sections and Snow Bike trail sections are available. Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links. You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.
Forestville: Andy Bully groomed from the Ponds to Co Rd 510 on the Noque’, Animoosh and the Mead Bypass.

Way too Long Grooming Report:
My bike kept the skis company and the snow shoes got a turn in the rotation. Depending on the number of winter sports in which you participate, winter is either long or short. Just as NHL hockey coaches tend to look at the season in groups of five games, I tend to see winter in a number of small groups of days. We are in high season right now prior to the first major series of thaws. This winter, has seen a good amount of snow and there is a prodigious amount on the ground in the woods due to no thaw to speak of. The snow pack will be different after this next weekend with sun and some upper 30s(f) afternoon temperatures. Back country alpine skiing with skins is awesome in late February prior to the first real thaw; so too is snow shoe travel. Each year in late February I like to walk up the south west side of Hogback. Yesterday I did some reconnaissance to find what roads are plowed and where one can park to optimize the approach. Short of time to summit and return before dark, I did still tromp around in the very deep snow. With this deep a snow pack the going is slow. After snow consolidation it will be an even more wonderful way to go up Hogback but not as much exercise. I’ll try to get a summit picture for you later in the week. You really should plan on going up. NTN rents shoes and Hogback in right next to Chiwagi.
Saux Head: All trails were groomed and track set yesterday the 18th.
Big Bay Pathway: Denis groomed Monday the 17th. Some snow will have fallen so if you do ski Big Bay please let us know how you found the trails.
Fit Strip: Neil last reported grooming last Sunday. If you do ski the Fit Strip please let us know what you found.
Snow bike trails format comments:
Comments below show how we found the trails when last ridden. Snow Monday the 17th, will have added an inch or two of new snow. I expect this will improve the trails in that lower areas that have become slick will be more grippy. However, the higher elevations in open areas may be drifted over. Let us know what you find.
