Grooming January 5, 2021
Sorry, no picture. We are working on the site to allow pictures in the report.
Forestville: The skate lane on all trails inside 17k will be Ginzu groomed. Sub freezing temperatures and light traffic means the trail from 17k to Co Rd 510 will remain very good.
Fit Strip: The Fit Strip was roll packed the week of new years but is still very thin. Neil says rock skis are needed if you go out. Think snow.
Big Bay Pathway: Meditation and Hidden Grin was groomed on 1/2/21. Track set and trail is in good condition even with the lack of snow. Best Mountain and Ridgeline will be closed for 2021.
Saux Head: All trails were skate lane groomed on the 1st. Classic tracks remain in good shape.
Snow Bike Trails:
North Trails Grooming:
Late Sunday night we groomed to clean up ruts and smooth the trails on the following:
Basin Loop (Silver Lead, Collinsville, BLP Rocks, Blue Heron, Upper Blue Heron) and the Forestville Trails (Midnight Snack, Ramblin Man & Wildcat)
Coverage is thin with exposed rocks and roots, especially at lower elevations Use caution on BLP Rocks as there are a couple of icy areas.
South Trails Grooming:
South Trails were groomed Sunday. Its in pretty good shape now.
Mt. Marquette loop, Main loop, Enchantment loop, and Old Camp Ridge……OCR still needs some work but is ridable.
Also groomed Eh-line but its not going to be ridable for a bit yet.
All in all, pretty good considering the lack of snow.
*****warning****
Watch out for the ice on the bottom of Mt. Marquette loop (aka Jeep Trail). We sanded it the best we could, but its still going to be slick.”
WTLGR: This is the section of the report where we gas on about the nature of fate. You know, like when you wash the car it rains? Or, when you study the test is postponed? I am here to say it may be mere coincidence. Grooming to Co Rd 510 was a sure way to get snow. This past week the skiing to Co Rd 510 has been excellent even on days without grooming. In late December and early January to low sun keeps our snow young even if our legs are not. I’ll be (planning on) ringing the bell at 510 today (provided I don’t rupture that pesky aortic aneurysem) and it will be great.
And a note to critics in the audience. As you know, AI is taking over the world. College entrance application essays are being machine read. There are programs that write gibberish that score very well. You know, they use the right number of big words and include such phrases as, “in conclusion” and “pesky aortic aneurysem”. Now, a real critic will say, “that’s corny”. If its not corny I go back to the drawing board. You computer geeks, you will be familiar with Youst editor; how useless. All I get is the unhappy smiley face and a comment that “readability needs improvement”. I don’t know what I would do if I ever got a comment that my epistle was “readable”.
See you out there
