Grooming March 23, 2020

Today’s report is brought to you by the Staff and Volunteers of the NTN: Most business are closed but for essential services. The Staff and volunteers at the NTN take recreation seriously.  What they do is serious business and the community owes now just the grooming staff but Lori, and Kelly and everyone that is making this year’s spring skiing truly something special.

Trail sponsorships are available.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  Doug is performing a skate ski clean up on high traffic areas.  It will be “groomer’s choice” and he will hit the high traffic areas to be sure.  Skiing will be great again today even if no grooming.  I had not heard by press time and I have to run.  It was great yesterday and today’s just above freezing will make for another great day regardless.  Enjoy

Way too Long Grooming Report:
It is like when you wash the car if you want it to rain; or when you study quadratic equations because you expect a pop quiz.  Remember, I left my skis in the garage looking like a dog that needs a walk?  Fortunately, skies are like dogs in other aspects of their existence.  For example, leave the dog in the house for days and he/she will still wag its tail upon your return.  Not expecting a two hour window when it suddenly opens is a wonderful thing; especially when it is a day like yesterday.  Check out the picture from (apparently now) my favorite picture spot at the start of the first major climb on Bagwagi.  I was on the trails in mid afternoon and you can still see a good deal of corduroy.  It had gotten a little warm in sunny spots and I fear I had dry skis (to match the dry hands from sanitizer).  Fortunately, my telemark landing practice from Nordic jumping days saved the day at the transition from shade to full sun following the last major downhill on Chiwagi.  Careful, there is a sitzmark there but you can tell it is too small to be mine.

Saux Head:  AnchorAnchorAll trails were groomed and track set Saturday.  It should still be nice today once above 32.

Big Bay Pathway:    No report at press time

Fit Strip:  The lit loop was groomed yesterday.  The thaw will have hurt the trails.  Trails will be icy if below freezing.

Snow Bike Trails;  All snow bike trails were groomed over the weekend and are in great shape.  We are in a freeze thaw cycle to be careful when warm because it will freeze any pizza cutter ruts each night this week.  If we use proper tire pressure and common sense we will have great riding all week.
