March 30, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE  as long as we can!

Today’s report is brought to us by the folk that sent in money on the Spring of COVID 19 Link (see below):    We are in what soccer players call “extra time”.  Our “groom as often a possible” position during the COVID 19 situation has put big smiles on a great many people as they practice safe social distancing.  Of course, it has placed a dent in the budget and thus the plea for spring contributions.  As of Sunday we received enough to cover another groom. Tonight or tomorrow look to be cold enough to make grooming possible.  Overnight temperatures and humidity need to freeze and remove moisture from the base.  Then, day time spring weather makes for spectacular skiing.

We will keep grooming as long as the snow (and money) allow.

You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

See you out there

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  No grooming last night as it was too warm.  Morning skiing may be good but please stay off the trails if you are sinking into the base more than 2”.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

Rainy days during this COVID 19 shut down period reminds me of springtime in the olden days, when there were six hockey teams and half that many TV channels (if you had cable).  Of course, NHL hockey was not televised in those days anyway.  Before this lock down situation, a cold sufferer could spend waste a Sunday watching hockey or any number of lawn games as croquet or even golf.  But now, one has to search Netflix to find Gilligan’s Island re-runs.  In the olden days, after the Packers won the NFL championship there was dearth of sports.  So, TV producers filled viewers insatiable demand for live sports by inventing Overweight Men Running While Carrying Refrigerators. I think it was also called by such euphemisms as The World’s Strongest Man competition or sum such nonsense.  It was all very silly but it was live athletic(?) competition.  Since long before the  Colosseum or even the ancient Olympics, man has yearned for spectacles that pit good vs evil in a staged recreation of the universe.  Now we can’t even watch the fat men with refrigerators.  You have to feel for the people that don’t read. Well, if you hadn’t guessed it by now, if my cup is half full I just figure I have 50% too much cup so there must be a silver lining.  For example, if this goes on much longer maybe book stores will come back.

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and track set Saturday.  We are on the thaw end of the thaw/freeze cycle.  Skiing may be quite good if the trail is still firm but please stay off the trails if you sink in more than 2”.

Big Bay Pathway:    I expect the classic tracks are quite thin and dirty.  We are on the thaw end of the thaw/freeze cycle.  Skiing may be quite good if the trail is still firm but please stay off the trails if you sink in more than 2”.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Groomers went out on the 26th to smooth high traffic areas. We are on the thaw end of the thaw/freeze cycle.  Riding may be quite good if the trail is still firm but please stay off the trails if you sink in more than 2”.  Let us know what you find.  I have not been out in a week.  Send pictures.
