April 1, 2020 Grooming Report

GROOMING WILL CONTINUE with Ginzu  as long as we can!

Today’s report is brought to us again by the folk that sent in money on the Spring of COVID 19 Link (see below):  Yesterday’s final Bully groom was  paid for the following wonderful people: Dr. Don Hurst, Bill Short, Ray Wales, Daniel Arnold, Rob Fox, Ann Valiquette and Thomas Mahaney.  I do hope you did get out to enjoy it.

You may follow the link   https://noquetrails.org/product/nordic-fund/ and contribute or feel free to contact the office or reply to this grooming report.  No contribution is too small.

See you out there

Trail memberships can be purchased on the web site.  Please visit www.noquetrails.org and follow the links.  You too can be feted in an up coming grooming report.

SPRING SCHEDULE IN EFFECT:  Trail Head is closed and the privy is locked.  Practice save social distancing and enjoy the beautiful skiing.

Forestville:  No grooming last night due to warm overnight temperatures.  Skiing the remainder of the season will be heavily dependent on the weather.  Skiers will look for the time window where the snow is just beginning to soften as temperatures rise above 32f.

Way too Long Grooming Report:

I have yet to find a creative April Fools story but am still looking.  There are a great number wonderful examples.  A successful April Fools Day report brings the hapless reader or listener into an increasingly ridiculous story.  In the end you are left feeling silly for being duped.  Remember the Sports Illustrated story about the high school kid with the 163 mph fast ball?  NPR got me a number of years ago with a story about a guy that could make sound effects with his voice.  I still hope to come up with such a ruse and apologize to you both for failing yet again.

Given the law of large numbers, I expect at least one of you (ie, 50%) looks to the grooming report to avoid doing something else.  I use its writing to avoid doing all number of things I should actually be doing.  The brain is wonderful that way.  We can always find something to do to avoid … .   For example, I should be on a yoga mat right now performing stretching exercises.  I want one of those machines like in the old Jetson’s cartoon. You know, the one where the bed flips him on the ground and a claw places him on a conveyor belt to the bathroom?  Why can’t it take the next step and twist me into a pretzel so I can press my palms against the floor.  Yoga is like biking in the rain; once you are underway it is great but watching cat videos or writing the grooming report is much easier.  No?

Saux Head:  All trails were groomed and track set Saturday.  With temperatures near freezing skiing may be quite good but look out for icy down hills early in the day.

Big Bay Pathway:    I expect the classic tracks are quite thin and dirty.  With temperatures near freezing skiing may be quite good but look out for icy down hills early in the day.

Fit Strip:  Grooming has been suspended.  Expect some bare spots.

Snow Bike Trails:  Groomers went out on the 26th to smooth high traffic areas. With temperatures near freezing riding may be quite good but look out for icy sections early and soft sections late in the day.  Snow biking may be great for another month at the higher elevations.  Be sure to avoid cutting into the base when temperatures rise.
