Upper Bismark Creek Crossing

Forestville Trails:

The Trail head is now open and staffed!

Warm temperatures kept the grooming fleet parked.  No grooming last night. Please stay off trails if the base can not support your weight.  This is true for ski and bike trails.

But you should have been here yesterday!  I do fear I undersold the conditions. Granted, I did say skiing would be good and the thaw had not harmed our base but, after Monday’s thaw I fully expected to find a rather hard pan surface and glazed classic tracks.  Instead, outside of the first three “k”, trails were unglazed with snow on top of a hard smooth base. Our sun never gets very high in December and virtually all of the trails are well shaded. I hadn’t really planned on running to 510 but… The only evidence of Monday’s thaw was a glazed west facing section near 23k.  With all the major hills  facing east skiers that rang the bell at 510 were treated to one of those magical days; comfortable temperatures, light air, sunshine and groomed trails in the back country!

I do expect today’s thaw to glaze even the 510 end of the system but cold temperatures return tomorrow night.  The base will become firm with no bare spots.  A dusting of snow tomorrow night will have us back in mid-season conditions.

Saux Head Trails:  Warm overnight temperatures kept groomers parked.

Fit Strip:  Warm overnight temperatures kept groomers parked.

Snow Bike “North Trails”  Warm overnight temperatures kept groomers parked.

Snow Bike “South Trails”   Warm overnight temperatures kept groomers parked.

See you out there,

Sondo
