Way too Long Grooming Report:

Epic only begins to describe yesterday’s powder (so, I’ll have to finish the job).  Truly epic conditions require depth, weight, (in)stability, slope and weather.  Snow will settle and develop layers. Reptiles known as snow snakes live in the crusty layers one often finds in the back country. We are fortunate to live where snow falls fast enough to provide deep powder before it settles. With no crust layers one can simply point skis down the fall line and they turn themselves; it’s like flying.  So, you want the top layer(s) to be unsettled (as long as you are not in an avalanche chute). For it to be “bottomless” you need some layers of settled snow to keep your skis from ever hitting a hard base or dirt/rock.  Truly Champagne powder will be hip deep and sluff back into your tracks, providing what are fondly called, free refills. I was lucky enough to find such an open, south facing slope with these conditions.  At 10f with light air and full sun, the climb was as enjoyable as the descent.  I am typically not so self-indulgent so as to blow all day on such frivolity, but, I’m working on it.

Saux Head:  Groomed and track set Friday morning. Tim reports , we have a ski heaven now!

.

Big Bay Pathway:  Groomers will get out ASAP

Fit Strip:  Niel groomed and track set all trails Friday.  There is a good base now so skiing will be good for the rest of the year.

Snow Bike South Trails:

South trails groomed but please use low pressure.  Trails are likely still soft.

Snow Bike North Trails:

Volunteers were back out today, incorporating 2” of fresh snow into the soft base from this weeks major snow event.

Both the Upper and Lower Loops plus Ramblin Man and Wildcat were groomed again and the base is firming up nicely and should be in good shape for Saturday.

In addition, the Oxbow, Cedars and EZPZ to the river were also groomed.

Plans are to snowshoe Mildcat tonight and groom it first thing in the morning- please wait until at least noon to check it out to give the base time to set up.

Trails are in good shape, but fairly soft: low tire pressure and snowshoes will help keep them in good shape for the users coming later.
